Bunny Jr. is pissed at me because I won't let her get her hair dyed. |
|
Her hair's a natural dark brown, and very pretty I might add. She has experimented with various supermarket dye kits, and come up with some nice highlights and etc, but now wants her hair professionally dyed to platinum blonde.
I've explained to her the amount of work (stripping, bleaching, dying), and COST ($100+ every 4-6 weeks), involved in such a transition, and told her that we cannot afford this type of hair color. She's pissed! She is trying to come to terms with the fact that she is not an heiress ala Paris Hilton, but she's still mad at me. Me!
Kids. :eyes:
Part of what really bugs me about this is that she disparages any knowledge or experience that I have regarding hair coloring. In her mind, I don't know shit. I have half a mind to let her get it done, with the understanding that it will be the last time I will spend money on her hair. As in, I will not pay for touch-ups and etc. You know, let her find out the hard way. Do you think that would be cruel? I think it would be, but sometimes you only learn by making your own mistakes.

1. Tell her she's allowed to dye it... but only a puke-green color. |

That's what I'd do at least.
That, or just tell her she's allowed to, but you're not gonna put one penny towards it.

6. She has no money. That's the problem. |
|
And I refuse to spend the kind of money necessary for this transformation. I'm mean, apparently.

I agree that this is a ridiculous thing to start at a young age- and way too expensive.

7. She's 16, and yes I think it's a little too young for such a high-maintenance hair style. |
|
But wtf do I know? :eyes:

the trouble is that once you start dying your hair, you are in a vicious and expensive cycle of high maintenance. With dark brown hair as her natural color, it's going to take a lot of work and money to go blonde (and have it look somewhat natural).

16. Oh yeah. Lots of money involved. Since my daughter is not Paris Hilton, this presents a hardship |
|
on the family budget. But, I'm the bad guy. Sigh.
Fortunately, she's a pretty good kid, and she'll figure this out soon enough. But it's still a pain in the ass for me!

10. Wouldn't she be better off with some nice red henna? |

Brunettes going blond is such a bad idea. I cringe when I see the more obvious ones.

Me, her mother, is just some ignorant hack, apparently. :eyes:

11. Tell her she can do it when she can pay for it. |
|
More than likely when she gets a job she'll be able to find plenty of better things to spend money on.
Or I can send pics of when my sister's bleach job (which only needed to take her from natural blonde to fakey Parisites Hilton blonde) fried her hair and she looked like a cancer patient. That should get her over the idea.

12. I think you're right. When it's *her* money, she'll feel differently about what to spend it on. |
|
I'll reserve the right to ask you later about that pic of your sister, if you don't mind. :)
