Can people eat grass?

I mean obviously not if it's been doused in Weed-n-Feed, but just plain grass? Couldn't we scoop up our lawn trimmings, toss them in a nice vinagrette and serve them as a colorful and healthy side dish?

Because the news keeps indicating that there's a global food shortage, and I think we might be overlooking the obvious.

1. Ask the Irish. They ate it during the famine.

7. Yeah, I just googled "people eat grass."

Apparently I'm not the first one with this thought. Fascinating...

15. Eating and Digesting are two different things
Many Irish starved. Probably many with grass in their innards.

Thankfully, many got on a boat. From a few, descended moi.

23. You ever wonder why they didn't just eat FISH?
 it brought my ancestors here too so I shouldn't criticize.

29. They weren't allowed. Inland lakes and streams were owned by the
landowners who gave them a small patch of land on which to raise their crops; chiefly potatoes. Those who did fish were considered poachers and shot. For the small numbers who fished in the seas, there was no one who could afford the fish other than the gentry.

8. The Google tells me it's got a lot of silica in it,

...which is or would be hard on human teeth. So that's why we don't eat it. But grazing animals' teeth have adapted by constantly regenerating the tooth surface area. Cool.

11. Puree it and mix with lemonade.
Call it 'grassolina' and market it to people with more money than common sense as the latest, get fit beverage.

It'll keep you regular AND help you diet!

30. dandelion greens are for reg. salads in Italy
if anyone wants a dandelion starter garden, I can ship them seeds that will, miraculously, grow just about anywhere!

I did some edible landscaping a few years ago. friends gave me starters for raspberries and my kids gave me blueberry bushes as presents. I got a late-bearing peach tree (which will bear fruit earlier if the heat hits) I planted paw paw trees as understory. I have a twisted willow - willow is a natural plant rooting hormone and is the basis for aspirin. I've never made willow tea, tho. I have a broom plant which, again, was used for brooms in olden times. planted rue and st. john's wort and strawberries as a border (strawberries are invasive, tho, and I've been a bad weeder lately). Nasturiums are edible. The flowers taste like cukes. Borage is another great plant that helps break up clay soil and is a companion plant to strawberries. planted old school roses that make rose hips, which are a great source of vit. C. (hybrid roses are like Hollyweird d-girls with silicone lips... )

Even if we are about to enter great prosperity, planting fruit trees, etc. can increase the value of your property, too. Plus they give you stuff to give away to the local food bank.

6. Wouldn't the obvious thing be to plant food instead?
That's a hell of a lot of water, land and effort going into a useless crop.

20. I think this all the time....why do we put so much effort into a plant we can't eat.
Which means, of course, that I don't. I don't know why anyone does!

you can feed it to a cow, then eat the cow.

Why we feed grain to cattle is beyond me.

if they don't eat meat look at your teeth and how your body was designed and you'll see that I'm right and animals eat other animals and we're like big cats that way and the last antelope I took down though it was a long chase needed relish no flames please.
