Ever had a life-changing "ah-ha" Moment?
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 07:40 PM by Texasgal
We have a pre-med student that is working part time at our surgical practice. She is super cute and the tender age of twenty.

So, this morning we are prepping for pre-op and she starts to talk about music, she asks me what type of music I like. I responded that I like 80's music. She says she does too! So, I ask her what artists she likes... she tells me that she likes duran-duran and Michael Jackson. x(

As we are talking I happen to mention Billy Idol... I asked her if she liked him. She looks at me a shrugs... she's NEVER HEARD OF BILLY IDOL!

HOLLLLEEEEEEE MUTHER OF FARKING CHRIST! Who HASN'T HEARD OF BILLY IDOL????

Yup, my grand AH-HA moment! I am OFFICIALLY OLD!

Man, that stung today! x(

Edited to add better freaking smilies!

3. OLD
is a matter of perspective; please remember!

I'm visiting with my folks in FLA; mom newly in nursing home.

I complained about language some of 'old ladies' at folks' residence (retired people) were using; someone said, "who's SHE?" so I explained who I am, including 'I'm 63.'

Someone said, 'She doesn't LOOK IT!

AND I found 'my' radio station today, '60s and '70s.

SO, YOU are NOT old!!!!

4. Hey, I was alive when he got popular and I completely missed it.
Only found out who he was in the next decade.

Then again, I was a sheltered kid. :P

6. As a straight-but-not-narrow kind of guy, it started when Bill Clinton announced his
intention to allow gays to serve openly in the military. The Repukes fought him so hard on that one that he had to go with that stupid "Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell" policy to save face. I used to vote Republican because when you're in the military yourself, that's what you do (I thought). Then in 1994, when the repugs took over the asylum, I knew I would never vote -R- again. I cast my last vote for a repuke (Bush, Sr.) in 1992, and have never looked back. My "A-Ha" moment caused me to embrace my inner liberal, and let him out for good. :-)

9. If she's heard of Duran Duran, how has she not heard of Billy Idol?
You're not old--she's listening to the wrong radio station. (He was in the movie "The Wedding Singer" for crying out loud...)

I had a scary moment with a co-worker in her 20's last week who did not know who John McCain was. When it was explained to her, she said, "Really? I thought it was between the black guy and the lady." I am serious. She's not dumb, either, just...preoccupied. This wasn't a generational divide--this was a "Whoa, parallel universe!" experience. It caused me to realize exactly what an "undecided voter" might look like.

(Earth to vixengrl--"Not everybody is a political junkie...")

13. "Hunting High and Low" is one of the most underrated pop albums.
There are actually better songs on that thing than "Take on Me".

15. Is the Air Conditioner Broken or Am I Having A Hot Flash?
The other day I came home from work and my son had the air condition going full blast and I was burning hot and fanning myself and asking him if he broke the air conditioner. I felt like I was on fire. I took the filter out and cleaned it and put it back and it was still hot. My son, who is 15, was looking at me like I was crazy and telling me that the room was freezing. Suddenly, I remembered I was pre-menopausal and I having my first major hot flash - ah-ha!!!

16. My life changing ah hah moment...
Early 1970s, northeast Ohio. I'm wearing waders, standing knee deep in chicken manure with a shovel in my hand. As I reflected on the whopping $1.25 per hour I was making, it hit me...

"I'm going to go to college!"

19. I had one tonight as a matter of fact
I got an email from someone that I have had a relationship with

I'll admit I've been snarky with her since she broke it off with me because she "met someone"

well she won't answer the phone, answer texts, but she did answer an email

all she could focus on was her myopic part of the email I sent her, about the fact that I could tell when she was on the phone and was doing something else that took her attention away from me and one of those activities was being on DU and I would find that my hunches were right and she would be posting during the time she said she was doing nothing but talking to me.

So my aha moment was when she wrote me sarcastically addressing this and I wrote the explanation of what I'd said and it hit me: I don't have to live like this anymore. I'm worthy of more than someone who asks me to call them and then proceeds to ignore me and pretends they are not.

That was an AHA moment for me.
:D

20. If it makes you feel any better, my 16 yo daughter
began singing a rather unique cover version of Come On Eileen (she does it slow, acoustic, and you don't get what she's singing at first) at the tender age of 14. When she talks 80's music, she gets it right. Of course, she also has the entire Beatles catalog on her I-tunes.

21. Try babysitting
at the age of 14 and the oldest is 9. He wakes in the morning and I tell him that his hair looks like Alfalfas from the Little Rascals and he says who is that and who are the Little Rascals?

At 14 I felt old. Grew up on those shows.
