Color me ignorant, but why is it so wrong to put catsup on meatloaf?
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 12:26 AM by AggieGal
This is what was done in my house growing up. Nothing wrong with it.

My fiance and future inlaws could not believe I this. It was like I was raised in a barn or something.

4. That's crazy. Meatloaf requires Ketchup!
My mom's meatloaf used to have a delicious thick crust of ketchup, and even then I'd slather the whole thing with more.

Mmmmm Meatloaf.

Vegetarians are suckers.

5. I make my meatloaf like my mom and grammie used to do it.
Ketchup AND BBQ sauce covering the top before baking or better yet slow cooking it in a crock pot.
I make it at least once a month. The kids love it, and I always save/hide a slice for a sammie the next day.

7. the recipe I use...
...calls for a sauce made with catsup, a bit of brown sugar, a bit of mustard, and a pinch of nutmeg. It's delicious. Wouldn't be meat loaf without it!

24. And a bit of dried minced onions.
I can be quite the foodie, but when it comes to feeding teenage boys, meat loaf is the bomb. And meat loaf sandwiches the next day also rock.

33. I have always used ketchup on my meatloaf but have done
variations of it. I now sprinkle it with a bit of brown sugar after I put the ketchup on it. Years ago, after watching The Christmas story, I put ketchup on it, baked it, took it out and added more ketchup on top and then added slices of cheese. Put it back in the oven until cheese melted. My kids loved it like this then, but now deny ever eating it or liking it. My son has gone semi-vegatarian and my daughter likes it the old fashioned way, sort of. ;)

34. Oh-oh....food snobs
I love ketchup on hot meatloaf and mayo on cold meatloaf in a sandwich the next day. I made meatloaf yesterday and took it over to my friends' house. I dated a guy once, actually he was my boyfriend and a Republican. What a shit head. He was obsessive compulsive about what sauces were presented with what food. He used to tell a grim tale of going ballistic, when a half-brother asked for ketchup, on Thanksgiving for his ham. Ruined the whole family dinner. He was the condiment Nazi, over no ketchup on hotdogs, no mustard on hamburgers, no steak sauce on steak. Steak sauce was an insult to the cook by covering the natural flavor of the meat. I say watch out for these people. The ex-boyfriend is a ex because he eventually showed his true colors and was a control freak over more than politics and food.
