Now THAT'S a Mississippi Cat!

Don't know any particulars about this fish except that it appears to have been caught in the Mississippi River near the Delta. At any rate:

:wow:

31. I'm with you 100% BV!
PUT IT BACK RIGHT THIS MINUTE!

Anything that grand, that has made it to that magnificence, deserves some respect, not to be cut up, eaten and shat out of some asshole, literally.

That creature exists for a reason beyond anybody's frigging tastebuds or misplaced macho pride.

AAAARRRRGHHH! PUT IT BACK RIGHT THIS INSTANT!

32. "We're gonna get a bigger boat. --Right?"
All I can think of is Roy Scheider saying that in Jaws once he gets a look at the size of the shark...

I've heard stories--supposedly from guys who are divers in the Mississippi--saying there are catfish laying up next to the locks and dams that are that large. I'd always dismissed them as urban legends or fishing talk.

Now, I'm not so sure.

I thought I'd seen big cats but that is a BIG CAT. It would take a barrel of cornmeal to batter that big boy, with just enough left over for a few hush puppies.

25. 188 lb sturgeon caught in Wisco two weeks ago
Was not even a state record. Record for Lake Winnebago, through. Something like 88 inches long.

Also, California state record for sturgeon was 485 lbs or so.

26. I believe that is a Wels Catfish
Native to Europe so I don't think it came from the Mississippi. I have read that they grow to over two hundred pounds. Check out this link for more photos of giant cats.

Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 04:27 PM by jchild
looks like a blue cat to me. I've seen forty and fifty pound cats from the Mississippi river...never anything like this, though.

Edit: It may be a channel cat--it's spotted and channel cats are usually spotted.

34. report of a fish grabbing a deer on shore of Ft Peck Lake
from a las whose honesty I trust. Said the fish washed to the edge of lake and grabbed a deer taking a drink. We have reliable reports of fish as big as pick up trucks.

Strugeons and paddlefish up here.... I do not go into that lake!
