Anyone have experience selling stuff on craigslist? |
|
I'm going to list my minivan for sale, but I'm hesitant about giving out my address for people to come see it. I'm kind of rural/secluded.
Am I being a big scaredy cat?

There have been people lured in and killed by craigslists ads.
I have sold stuff on there, but I always met the person in a public place and never where I live.
and I never give out my home phone number, only a cell number so they can not get my home address.

2. I've sold quite a bit on there, and never ever listed my address on the ad |
|
If they're really interested in looking at the car, arrange to meet them someplace with a big parking lot. Tell them your house is really hard to find.

I just feel like you can't be too careful these days, and I've seen the "interesting" types that post on craigslist.
Frightening place, craigslist can be. :D

Don't list anything except, unless it's a cell phone number. They can't reverse ID it that way. Or just rely on the forwarding service. I've only sold one thing--bedroom set--but I didn't list any personal info, and it sold within a few hours.

6. I attempted to buy a hot tub. |
|
I went to the lady's house to see it (excuse me, woman--she was no lady).
About a week later, I called her to ask her when I could come get it to transport it and she told me she had sold it to her dad, so she could still use it at his house. And her dad also offered her a thousand dollars more than I did.
I had three men sitting around waiting for instructions. She was rather inconsiderate.
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
But then, in her kitchen, she had stainless steel pots hanging from a pot rack that she bought "just for looks". :wtf:
I would buy cook pots to USE them!!!
Silly me!!!! :banghead:

7. I've Had Great Success With Craigslist |
|
I've brought and sold items on Craigslist. Usually I start with an e-mail and if the person follows-up, I e-mail them my phone number and we chat by phone a bit. If they sound relatively human by phone, I take my chances. Never had a problem. I got a part-time temp evening job through there, got a mover. Lots of stuff. Just gotta use common sense and take it step by step. Also, I always make sure someone is home with my if anybody's coming to look at something and do it during the daylight hours.
