Encinitas, really? A RANT. |
|
I get this phone call from my dad today. Apparently he has ordered some golf clubs at a golf store here in California that he wants me to pick up (and store) for him. This is for convenience, so that when he comes out to visit me, he does not have to haul his clubs back and forth from Minnesota. OK, no big deal, where is the golf store?
Encinitas.
65 miles away from my house. Apparently, my daughter and I will be going to Sea World or some such, because I refuse to only drive to Encinitas to pick up golf clubs. I love my dad dearly, but Encinitas? He could not find a golf store in Orange County to buy a set of clubs that I get to store for him?

2. But 25 miles takes 2 hours... |
|
:P
I seriously do not know whether to laugh or cry. 5 dollar a gallon gas, and being the dutiful daughter, I am driving to Encinitas.

17. Keep a record of your mileage |

Then bill him.
I believe the current rate is .32 per mile.

It would be good if he understood that SoCal is not the size of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
I run into that often — people who've never been here don't have a clue as to how big the place is. I tell people I'm on the Central Coast and they say, "Oh, are you near LA?"

27. Is that a chain? If so, is there one nearer to you? |
|
And if that's a "yes", call or go to the nearer one. Explain the situation, and see if they have the same clubs and could let you have them there, rather than driving to Encinitas. Worth a try.

33. Unfortunetely the closest store is in Encinitas. |
|
I have decided that since the Twins are in San Diego next week, that I am going to go down to see them play and get the clubs.
Plus I have not been to Petco Park.

4. Ask him why he didn't just get them delivered to your house. |
|
If he says "because delivery is too expensive," charge him for the gas.

|
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 07:03 PM by Saint Etienne17
You could drive the extra 20 min.s and come see me in SD. :P
Also you could go to the awesome county fair in Del Mar which is close to Encinitas.
Or Legoland.

15. Encinitas is a nice town with many good restaurants, and |
|
Legoland is right down the road in Carlsbad. So it could turn out to be a very nice trip for you and your daughter.

34. Sea World can be fun, they have a fireworks show every night at about 9:45, and |
|
they have a brand new water play area mainly for kids. There's quite a lot to see at Sea World, the animal shows, the rides, the aquariums and exhibits, the shops, all kinds of stuff.

20. How is Legoland, anyway? Worth a trip? |
|
We'll be visiting my brother in Riverside in a couple of weeks and he suggested we take MG Jr., who's 4. Is it worth going, or should we just go to the beach instead?
And, most important, is there a gift shop where I will be divested of every last cent in our bank account?

32. Kids are in heaven at Legoland - it was designed for the 3-8 age group. |
|
Teenagers will be a little bored there, because the rides are gentle and tame. There are lots of gift shops there, especially those that sell every conceivable Lego product.

OK, my Legoland story: My wife won free tickets: two adults, two children. Only had to pay for parking ($10). It wasn't worth it. Really. Waste of a day. Thank Whomever I didn't pay for it.

and Mom's friend asked me if I was going to the Olympics.
The Los Angeles Olympics. 400 miles away.
At one point, Mom's friend was considering taking a correspondence course to become a travel agent. :eyes:

|
those clubs should just be shipped to your house.
And the Encinitas drive ain't always a fun one.
