Granted, you pretty much have to like totally over the top epic bombast to really lock in to this, but if you do, well, DAMN!

For those not up to date on the latest Priest related news, the new album is their first concept album, and is based on the life of Nostradamus (though not really the more famous predictions).

This work is very in touch with the early, obscure albums such as Sin After Sin, Stained Class, and especially Sad Wings of Destiny--in other words their progressive tendencies have really, and I mean REALLY resurfaced, lots of accoustic guitar, organ, moody synth work and string orchestration.

If you are the kind of person who always wanted Yes to really go dark, while getting their sweep picking, pinch harmonics and whammy bar related shit together, this Album truly delivers the goods.

If however that above description does not fit you (and let's be honest--it almost certainly doesn't!) just please feel happy that I am gettin' my RDA of bombast totally fulfilled! :D

1. I was really amazed at the energy they put forth in Painkiller.
I will have to check this one out.

3. It is a very moody work, but
you can tell it is the album they always new they had in them--but never just went for it full on. There are no 3 minute radio friendly tunes a la Breaking the Law or Living After Midnight on this, but if you like Touch of Evil and Painkiller, you'll dig this.

If you go to their website and let the page load you get to hear the title cut, and that is a fairly good indicator as to what you are about to get youreself into.

2. Cool.
I thought this album was NEVER coming out! So, let's see...June 18th to August 30th...that's like two-and-a-half months to learn to like these songs before the concert.

I think I can swing it!

By the way: Sin After Sin and Stained Class are their two best albums. But you knew that already.

Rock on with your bad self.

4. Thumbsup on Sin After Sin and Stained Class!
I pretty much like all their work (with the exception of the two albums with Ripper--and those weren't his fault Glenn just forgot how to write songs for a few years.) but Sin After Sin and Stained Class always find their way to the top of my playlist!

:headbang:

You can think of Nostradamus as an album that was written by the same guys who wrote Sin After Sin--but who also practiced their guitar playing in the 30 intervening years.

I reiterate: :headbang:

8. I Can't believe this...

I thought the Priest was washed up in 1991 and what did they do? Release Painkiller, which was so badass of a record I wept like a child.

I am stupified that they can continue to make killer metal, but the OP has me intrigued and I'll pick up this opus.

I always liked the Priest, but was a huge thrash metal fan in the 1980s. Priest somewhat influenced the hardcore metal movement, but were not speed metal. However, that Painkiller album was pure thrash in style and content..Scott Travis had double kick flying all over the place, KK and Glenn were pulling off guitar tricks I didn't know they could do, but they masterfully did it, and Rob's screams reached new heights in amazement.

The Priest are Gods.
