I think the main actor is in a favorite of mine called "Love Actually". so I'll have to watch it. I just have a hard time figuring out if a good movie can be made of such an eclectic book.
As for your avatar, I'm sorry to say I plead ignorance. What is the connection?

426. You win!
I prefer the 1954 version with Judy Garland and James Mason. Mason plays such a pathetic soul. One scene has him, drunk, up in front of movie producers and directors--the crème de la crème of Hollywood--whining about wanting a job. In another scene he gets knocked out cold by an angry Jack Carson and, while lying on the ground, he's passed over by dozens of people who essentially ignore him. One passer-by says, "Oh, that's 'Norman Maine.' He's been drunk for years!"

I've seen the 1976 version with Barbara Streisand and Kris Krisofferson, but prefer the Garland/Mason version.

I haven't seen the 1937 version with Janet Gaynor and Frederich March.

A lot of stars being born...

461. Many years ago - when White Zombie were touring for La Sexorcisto.
I saw them twice that tour - opening for Testament (wtf?) at the Troc, and then headlining at the Troc (or was it the Tower?), with Prong and Skrewdriver opening. They got a lot bigger over the course of that tour. :) Anyway, both shows, Rob spent most of the show crouched at the edge of the stage, singing to the crowd (this was before the had barriers between you and the stage) and he held my hand a LOT (true story!). And then in the second show, he pulled me up on stage and kissed me, and then put me down gently offstage and a roadie brought me a chair and a beer and I got to watch the rest of the show from the wings, and then I went backstage after the show (they did a Black Flag song as the encore, can't remember which one) and met all the band and got their autographs and hung out. Rob was nice but distant - I think he was already with the girl who would become his wife and didn't want to f--- groupies...because I might have. Heh. :D

I never was much of a starf*cker - Matthew Sweet kissed me but I did not enjoy that at ALL. Some roadie for Soundgarden tried to get into my pants, but I got onto their tourbus without touching that perv - Chris Cornell wasn't there but I met the rest of the band, which was cool. Kim Thayil was a dick but the rest of them were nice. :) I grabbed Chris Cornell's ass at the show though when he was crowdsurfing - heh. I made out with the drummer from the Bloodhound Gang when he was like 16 and I think I was 22 - whoops! I was really drunk. Ad Roc from the Beastie Boys flirted with me but I don't think either of us would have done anything. Perry Farrell tried to get me to suck his dick but he was such a fucking asshole I wouldn't have touched him with a ten-foot pole.

466. People either love or hate that movie.
I bought it (having never seen it) for $1 when the video store cleared out their VHS inventory. I was talking about the movies I got with the husband of a co-worker. He said that his right to pick a movie was revoked for several months when he selected that one for viewing with his wife and M-I-L. I watched it with two friends, one of them said "That whole movie is just sick."

But I thought it was a captivating movie...I'm going to buy it on DVD if I ever get around to it.

508. I just said that exact thing to a friend of mine today
What a coincidence! I also challenged him to come up with a better score than that, and he couldn't. I think Lawrence of Arabia is also great, but not as good as Morricone's masterpieces. A roommate in college had the soundtrack album for the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Sergio Leoni was also no slouch as a Director.
