How did I not know my state has another area code?
All my life, it's been 413, 617, 508..Then 978 and 781.

So I get my Dad's # at the hospital, and it's 857!

And apparently it's been around since 2001. And I also find out that we have: 339, 351, and 774.

:wtf: I am so out of the loop...

1. Ha. That's happened to me also.
CT used to be all 203, now there's 860 as well and probably more.

Danged Cell Phones.

2. Nope...just two.
203 - Fairfield Co. and all the right-leaning areas west of Waterbury we want to give to NY.

860 - New Englanders living in CT.

4. You are too young to remember this, but many moons
ago my hometown had just two exchanges and the exchanges only differed by one number. You could reach your party by only dialing the last number of the prefix and the four remaining digits.

This is how old I am. My first boyfriend in high school had a party line.

10. It was that way when I grew up in the 60's into the early 70's.
We had a guy next door who was an old bell at&t guy who installed a telephone central office switch in his house! Built an addition to his house to hold the equipment. He could have hooked everyone in town (about 3,000 people) to his phone system. He did it to put a phone in every room of his house! This was in the 70's.

My inlaws were in the 781 exchange and my brother was in Brooklyn at 718. Could never remember which was which.

some of us have an inferiority complex when it comes to the rest of the state. i mean our last governor made only a small number of trips of our part of the state.

did so overwhelmingly well in Franklin/Berkshire counties is that he visited towns like Greenfield. Hell, he went to Heath, which has a population of around 800 people. :D

I'm originally from Leyden, population approx. 775. w00t!

This is the hill I used to live on:

7. i remember when most of the western states were 1 area code
that all changed in the 90's.

but even the Bay Area has been multiple area codes since who knows when, and now we have 5 area codes.

and don't even get me started about Southern California. :banghead:

i was hungover, yes bad decision and the ride was the turkish twist, you know it spins around and the bottom drops out and you're stuck to wall?

Great memories.

You didn't have to dial (locally) either area code. Just the last 4 digits.

Now there are a brazillion area codes. Craziness.

24. We, NM, are in the process of a new AC
As of last Oct. the NW part of the state, Alb, Grants, Gallup, etc. have the old 505, and the rest of us are now 575. Until Oct.7,08 both will work, after that we need to use the new AC. I've had the 505 AC for 40+ years. 575-XXX-XXXX just don't feel right.
