My Fellow Kitty Peeps: What are your cat stereotypes?
Mine:

Orange males are almost always big, friendly loves.

Calicos (almost always females) usually have a catitude.

Long haired kitties tend to be slightly, well ... nuts. But I loves 'em. :loveya:

2. I'm with you on the orange males
I've had 3 and they've all been big, fat, cuddlebugs.

Maine Coons (or any cat with any Maine Coon in them) are sweet, but very regal. Suffering any sort of humiliation is not an option.

3. Gawd, I love Maine Coons.
One of our many cats when I was a kid was a stray orange-and-white kitten who grew into the most amazing and gorgeous fluffy Maine Coon with a white curly belly and chest ... Ahhh, that gorgeous plume of a tail ... :loveya:

My mom has a similar one today and he is just the most amazing, smart and beautiful kitty. I tried to talk her into giving him to me, but no dice. :)

6. Calicos ARE always females. It's a female-recessive gene.
Torties are always crazy. Always. The recessive gene that makes the tortie coloring also makes them nutcases.

8. Okay, I thought that might be the case about them being always female, but then I also thought
that I'd heard about rare exceptions ... Maybe not, though.

10. There are rare exceptions
They are cats with an extra chromosome..XXY..sterile but technically male, and they have the two necessary X chroms to produce the tortie coloration.

21. Tortietude!
My Madimi's got it. Anti-Cruelty Society had her for four months and seemed glad to see her go. They kind of hustled me through the interview process once I made it known I'd fallen for the Bad Girl.

Her favorite way of saying "I love you" is to sink her teeth into my arm and vibrate her head like a hummingbird's wings. Purring madly.

7. Males in general seem to be more lovey and affectionate in my experience.
A few years ago, my group of friends was sitting around talking and we realized we had 60+ cats between us (it was a good-sized group but still...). It was not scientific, but it sure seemed like the female cats of the group were less social, more likely to hide under furniture and not like strangers. My two (males) were the exact opposite. They would greet people at the door, sit on laps, demand to be petted constantly. Now that his brother is gone, my Frankie is even friendlier and demands even more attention and love.

I'm sure though that there are plenty of females like this. It's just my experience.

11. That's my experience as well
I love my little orange tabby female, but she's bonded with me and no one else. My male is almost canine in his behavior. Social, accepting, comes running when you call him and loves to have his tummy scratched. Scratch my female's tummy and she'll try to gut your hand...

12. I tend to agree in general. However,
over my life, the kitties I've had that have bonded to me like crazy -- seeing me as their mom cat figure, sleeping on my pillow and "kneading" my hair, following me around the house incessantly, etc., have been females.

15. You pretty much described my two cats. Of course, they were two week old orphans
when I found them, and I fed with a little teeny bottle. I'm guessing that's why they think I'm their mom. :)

Frankie is the most affectionate cat I've ever known. Everyone who comes to my house is amazed by him. He's such a lover. :loveya:

I have a Siamese mix kitty and when I go home at lunch and the end of the day she won't stop meowing until I pick her up and give her some quality snuggle time. She also seems to think that whatever isn't bolted to the floor is a cat toy. :)

17. I have a Nebelung mix and she's even worse than her Russian Blue counterparts
Nebelung is a long-hair Russian Blue.

Evita is neurotic, psycho and schizophrenic. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to give up on her but she'd sense my frustration and do something like allow me to pet her for 10 minutes and I'd fall even more deeply in love with her.

I will go out on a limb and say they are the coolest, most laid-back, kid-friendly cats on the planet. They were every bit as I had read them to be when I researched them. I'll never go to another cat.

18. Russian Blues are huge and friendly,
but they are like Lennie from Of Mice and Men. They are hard to make mad (by people), but when you do, well, have the bandages and antiseptic standing by.

Cats can learn to get along with each other, but the worst thing in the world to them is another cat in the yard.

My experience is that boys are sweeter and easier to deal with than girls (fixed, either way). I've had pairs of both, I usually keep pairs, and I find that males are easier to deal with overall.

They have some kind of sleep dust on them, or some kind of sleep vibe or ray. I'm gettin sleepy just thinking about it.

I actually use my cat as a pillow.

31. All cats are the smartest.
They wake you up in the morning so you "can earnz catfuud," then they go to sleep. After that, they take a nap. Then they eat some food, then they take a nap. After their nap, they go to sleep. Then they look out the window for a minute. When you get home, they yell for their treat. After that, they take a nap. Then they sleep on your head. Then they wake you up so you "can earnz catfuud."

I wish I was smart enough to get a gig like that.

35. Your cats are kind. Ours will poo
in Other locations--like in the middle of the bathroom floor, or (in the case of one particularly obnoxious little tux cat we had years ago) right in the middle of the bed.

The box MUST be kept tidy. Our Cat Overlords demand it.

37. My cats - oh, boy!
Savannah is a female orange tabby and I agree with Gilligan Orange Tabbies are always skinny and way too smart. She also does exactly what she wants when she wants, but at night she sleeps on a pillow above my head and purrs like a, well, like a cat. She is first to eat and has no problem swatting the other cats.

Rebecca is a black and white tuxedo who loves my dogs and sleeps with them. She also kisses their foreheads and just generally grooms them. When they are outside, she is outside. I think she has a dog gene in her.

Rebecca is a long-haired gray and white cat. She also happens to be 21 years old. I can say that she has never had any serious health problems (maybe we should have her genes). She has been a loner and never really liked being petted or picked up. She is mellowing in her old age and I can now hold her for longer than 10 seconds. She is completely deaf-I guess due to her advanced years yet she runs up the stairs and has no problem jumping on the sofa.

What a joy to have them. Cats rock!

Oh, and I agree about female cats being less social than the males.

38. I've found long haired cats
to be somewhat prissy, bossy and dim. They get by on their looks, because they don't have to use their brains. But, your milage may vary.

Short haired tabbies are very cunning.

She had to be the smartest cat I ever had. I'll never forget how she stood on her hind legs and "yipped" (yes, like a dog) at an open window to show me that someone had broken into the house.
