The French Quarter is heating up. The breasts are being exposed, the beads are being tossed. Hedonism reigns supreme; at least for the next 102 hours. If, per chance, you missed this years festivities, mark your calendar. Mardi Gras 2005 is February 8.

3. Coventina, I have to agree with you 100% |

I live 50 miles from New Orleans in a small community in Mississippi, which is like another planet, but New Orleans is a mighty fine city to hang out in. Ambience, food, architecture, decadence, language, history, weather.... It is just one incredible city.

I fell in LOVE with the place.
:loveya:
Went to Preservation Hall, toured the Garden District, rode the streetcar, toured the graveyard, went to the Voodoo Temple, rode the paddle-wheel on the Missippi, ate more fabulous meals than I ever have in my life, went to Ash Wednesday service at St. Louis Cathedral....
AND CAME HOME WITH 60 POUNDS OF BEADS FROM THE PARADES!
One of the best weeks of my life!!!!!!

I was there in 1969. They closed off all the streets in the French Quarter and when things got a little out of hand we ducked into the nearest building...which just happened to be Preservation Hall. We sat down on some wooden milk crates and listened to some wonderful old men play some fabulous music. :-)

The only thing better than free boobie shots is watching the cops arrest drunken idiots.
I remember on "Mardi Gras COPS", last year, they busted three Canadians, almost in a row, two for fighting, and one for indecent assault. The cop was flabbergasted.
I love it when they asked the busted people,"where are you from?" "Dayton, Ohio", "so they allow you to get naked in Dayton, do they?........No?......then why would you think we allow that behaviour, here?"
The cops give girls one free boobflash, but if they spot 'em doing it twice, they get busted. Showing below the belt for guys and gals is an automatic trip to the pokey.

13. No, but have lots of relatives in Monroe |

I am in Southwest MS--I drive over every year for Mardi Gras. Drive over every summer to fish at Lake Darbonne. (And I lived in Longview, TX for a while, too--you know where that is, I bet ;-) ).

Justhefacts and I both have friends and family who live on Lake Darbonne.
I lived in NO for five years and tended bar at Fat Harry's the whole time (corner of St. Charles and Napoleon), so I have had all the Mardi Gras one person needs for a lifetime.

I used to love to be at Mardi Gras in the French Quarter. Then I had a kid, and found Monroe's Mardi Gras to be more--uh--family oriented. It still has the fun--drinking, celebrating, block parties--but noone flashes her boobies. :-)

I was just there for the Sugar Bowl too. One of these days we will take the kids to Mardi Gras, but I'm not ready for it yet.
Have a fun weekend!

In lieu of going to New Orleans, I will have to content myself with watching my "The Big Easy" DVD this weekend. *Sigh* Dennis Quaid is just HOT, no doubt about it.

I was visiting my (future) wife in NOLA during MG and she told me I just HAD to get dressed up for the big parades on MG. So she did me up in drag, makeup and everything. When we got to our spot on Canal St., I was the only one dressed up and people were looking at me like I was a lunatic.
