New Sig Line.
While searching for a poem this morning, I came across a quote from the poet I posted today.

I think it's quite an accurate measure of where we are as a society.

Where did you get your sig line and why?

:hi:

1. It's in two parts, both given to me by DUers
The first part in this thread (and thread w/in the thread) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=152&topic_id=15124

The other thread is in my sig line and makes me chuckle! :P

3. My dear Retro!
I like your new sigline!

Especially if you consider that I'm in two out of the three groups!

Mine was something I read a long time ago in the book "How to win friends and influence people."

It really resonated with me, and I decided to use it here...

It's part of me...

I don't plan to ever change it!

4. Mine is like realllly f'n deep!
Not really.:silly:
It is both a reminder not to overlook the simple things in life(stop and breathe) and also a shoutout to a very dear friend of mine.

6. My latest
came from a figure from American history more American's should be aware of in my opinion. There is much made of people motivated in part by their religious faith to do good works or contributed in some significant way to the physical and cultural building and development of this nation. Not enough attention given to the very significant role, skeptics and secularists have contributed in history lessons.

Robert Ingersoll was as important a figure as any of the early milionares and philanthropists of the same time period and a very good spokesman for promoting secularism and humanist ideals.

And the quote is one I read again not to long ago and thought it expressed extremely well the importance of seculariism and why it is a moral and good approach to building a society that is productive, compassionate and happy.

8. My new sig explains part of my user name--
the part that confuses people who aren't from Maine. It's a quote from Stephen King's "Dolores Claiborne."

12. I like it, RL!
:hi:

My sig line(s) come from three sources:

1. Part of my Senator's response to GWB's 2007 State of the Union address.
2. Derived from the name of this website - a campaign (unfortunately unsuccessful in the end) dedicated to renewing William & Mary President Gene Nichol's contract. (I posted a couple of links to the whole story in the Virginia forum a while back, but long story short he stepped down in February after a lot of controversy about freedom of speech, etc.) What's done is done, but IMO Mr. Nichol did the right thing, and I respect him immensely for that.
3. The phrasing is, of course, from Kanye West; the sentiment is what I have observed from Mr. Bush's actions. :(

13. I just changed mine as well
If you remember I had just the backlit picture that I took of the American flag, I took the uncropped original and photoshopped in Obama. I also added a nice quote from Eisenhower that I found. I like slapping the Repubs with reminders of when their party was mostly sane and reasonable. :-)

If I can offer some well-intentioned advice, though...

You might want to use the <center>, </center>, and linebreak <br> commands to make it easier to read. Just replace the < and > with square brackets.

14. I snagged it from "Iron Jawed Angels". If you haven't seen it, you must.
It should be required viewing for all Americans.

http://www.hbo.com/films/ironjawedangels

http://www.fwhc.org/why-women-vote.htm

"It is a graphic depiction of the battle women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. The doctor admonished the men: "Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity."

17. I've been thinking about using this line.....

“Do you think God will let me into his kingdom? I would let him into mine if he asked.”
Spoken by Kiefer Sutherland’s gay character in “Behind the Red Door”, as he dies from AIDS.

I loved that movie.

18. I've had a few sig lines.
"I scream, you scream, we all scream." Should be self-evident as we all come to understand the dominant, sadistic nature of BushCo and friends and their long-term plans for humanity through resource and social manipulation. Of course holds the multiple meaning of rebellion and fear.

One was a Hindu prayer, "God, lead us into light...". The current is channeled from Archangel Uriel, with a bit of the Hindu prayer at the end, "Shanti" of course meaning "peace".

A similar line to yours, Retro, is that a society may be judged by how it treats its weak, such as the homeless, etc.

21. Mine was inspired by this quote from MLK Jr.:
"History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people."
