2. With the exception being: Motörhead
Even what was their version of a ballad would kick you in the balls really hard. Or in the same area for the lady metalheads.

4. I loved most of them, although I don't really consider them "metal".
Maybe the closest thing to a "metal ballad" that I can think of would be that Ozzy and Lita Ford song, "If I Close My Eyes Forever."

But if you're talking about those 80's "hair band" power ballads from groups like Poison, Whitesnake, Warrant, Bon Jovi, etc....then yes, I fully admit to loving most of them. Although that god-awful "When The Children Cry" song needs to DIE DIE DIE. *stabs it*

6. I think there should be a law or agreement among musicians
Singers like Barry Manilow agree not to do heavy metal songs and heavy metal bands should likewise agree not to do songs like his.

7. I have a weakness for power ballads.
It's a generational thing.

5. I considered most of them a desperate attempt at sensitivity by the bands producers...
To appeal to the widest possible demographic and thus maximize album sales. A wasted effort IMHO.
If metal rage is your band's strong suite, then go with what you know and just go KICK SOME ASS!:headbang:

8. Motley Crue started it
Tommy Lee should have been beaten within an inch of his life for it, but since it got girls interested in metal, every album by a hair band afterwards had to have at least one power ballad on it.

(well if you discount "Beth" by Kiss)

10. Bands always get "chicks" no matter what they play
I'll even bet the first caveman who started banging sticks and rocks in some kind of rhythm was gettin' lots of trim.

13. Always keep an mp3 player with some Motörhead on it
In case of emergencies like hearing or getting one stuck in your head and carry a picture of them with you in case you see a heavy metal hair band on TV

21. I have to admit a fondness for this song
now none of my hipster musician friends will talk to me anymore.... I will be banished....

:hide:

I think of it as music "shadow," in the Jungian sense... ;)

23. Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack!
Oh, that voice... I don't understand how anyone could like that. Just about everyone else loved that song, and it seemed to be on the radio or tv *constantly*.

Bad earworm. :(

22. I'd rather smear my balls with fish paste and dangle them in a tank of hungry piranhas....
..than listen to a metal ballad.
