1. IMHO there is no one "prettiest language sang"
It's apples and oranges. Especially the Internationale is pretty in any language.

3. If you've ever heard Icelandic, it's really something
I've never heard it being sung, but even just spoken
it's pretty amazing.

6. I have sung in Zulu
I'm a member oif the Taspestry Singers (Austin Women's Chorus). We did a piece that was mostly in Zulu at our Fall concert last year. It was really hard to learn at first but once we did it was beautiful. :-)

10. We listen to the Metropolitan Opera broadcast on NPR on
Saturday, and I love all the languages except english. Imagine this sung operatically, with a lot of vibrato: "Eddy, can you lift that chair?" We had to turn that one off.

11. Not German
We listened to a few German operas in my music appreciation class. The professor said that they were beautiful. I thought that they sounded horrible because of the language.
Italian is a good language for singing.
I also like Slavic languages although they need to be written for the the language to sound right.

12. Totally disagree
I think German, and also slavic and semitic languages are BEAUTIFUL!

But it's all personal choice, so I don't say you are wrong.

I HATE spanish, and for the most part, I don't find Italian attractive or unattractive - I'm very indifferent to it.

I also love Latin.

15. Hawaiian I think is my fave
Though as I said in the post above, I think German, and also slavic and semitic (Polish, Hebrew, Croatian, Hungarian, etc.) languages are BEAUTIFUL!

I HATE the sound of Spanish, spoken or sung, whether Spain's Spanish, or Mexican, or Dmonincan, or other derivative, and for the most part, I don't find Italian attractive or unattractive - I'm very indifferent to it. French can be very beautiful at times, but occasionally can sound quite bad.

I also love Latin.

But Hawaiian - come on, is anything more beautiful than that? (or any polynesian language will count in here, but I love Hawaiian's very small phonetic base)

Hindi is also quite beautiful, as is Japanese and Lakota. I also really like all the Scandanavian languages - Icelandic, Norse, Swedish, Danish, and also Finnish and Laplander.

Oh, and let's not forget Hebrew, Aramaic, and Akkadian (though no one sings in Akkadian anymore, sadly, cuz I bet it would be cool).

16. Let's see, "serious" music - Latin and Italian
Pop Music - English and Spanish

I sing in choruses and am the occasional tenor soloist and I really love Latin. Great music has been written by Germans, and great choral music in German - Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Schubert in particular - but AHHHHHH Latin....

17. Of the list you gave, I've heard them all

spoken and several of them sung and I'm quite partial to Italian. Not only is Italian beautiful, it's very easy to pronounce. It's like Spanish, but very different, too, in that both are easy to pronounce but a Spanish word that sounds like an Italian word almost never has a similar meaning. What I really like, though, is that while my husband can speak both, I'm the sort of person who is much better at reading other languages than speaking them, but I can sing Italian or Spanish from a hymnal! This always impresses him. Phrasebook Italian and Spanish is my speed but I can also read the prayers aloud at Mass. I doubt I could do nearly as well in French, even though I actually studied French. I guess I should go to France to find out!

How ya doin' lately, JohnKleeb?

22. The Internationale
Is great to hear at a gathering of socialists with comrades from many countries each singing in their own tongue. It's enough to make you believe we reaaly are all members of a common humanity.

Arise ye prisoners of starvation
Arise ye wretched of the earth
For justice thunders condemnation
A better world's in birth
No more tradition's chains shall bind us
Arise ye slaves no more in thrall
The earth shall rise on new foundations
We have been naught we shall be all

'Tis the final conflict
Let each stand in their place
The Internationale
Shall be the human race

I wish they had it in Gaelic though :). The original version in French IMO is by far the best one.
