Our first major act as a married couple ....
Buy a new car!!!

Well, we tried. We are looking into replacing Michael's car with a Hybrid Ford Escape SUV. Since we bought the house, we are forever buying stuff for the garden and yard and my little Honda isn't having any of it!!! Granted my little "Catfish" is a hatchback, but I'm a city gal and my boy is hot looking, but is not into hauling all this crap.

Michael has a Infinity w/ 90K miles on it. It's a year newer than my car, but has more mileage on it. Plus his drive is much longer than mine to work. SO, being the wonderful giving, husband that I am .... HE will get the new car. I'll just wait and get a Prius later .... it's ok, I don't mind. I'll be alright!! (I am getting a new PC ... so it's all good).

Anywho. We've looked in the Ford and saw that Star Ford in Glendale had three in stock. OH NO. They are all gone!! LA is SO getting into buying Hybrids. There's a waiting list for Prius'!

Do any of yous kids know anything about this Ford?

There are expecting the 2009's in the first week of July. The things we read on line look real good.

Thoughts?

1. My dear ronnykselbymarshall!
You sure that was your first major act as a married couple?

J/K!

Good luck with the car shopping...

I don't know anything about that Ford...

We've been driving Toyotas since 1980!

And we obviously love them!

Good luck, sweetie...

3. I love Toyota's as well.
I had a '77 Celica when I was a youngin' in Bakersfield. Great car. I sold it when I moved to SF in '86.

Did you get a Pirus? I see SO many of them around town. I think they are so cool. All Hybrids are.

GREAT mileage!

I also have a hybrid, the Camry. Model year 2007...I fill it about once a month.

10. The Camry's are wonderful too.
If we didn't need a larger car like an SUV, we would probably get an Prius and a Hybird Camry.

2. The City of Denver has a fleet of Ford Escape Hybrids.
That's one of the reasons Denver rawks.

5. That's very cool.
The salesman at the Ford dealer in Glendale was just great. They are expecting about 7 of the 2009's in around July 7th. But I really want to get a good look at it and drive that mama. If all goes well, that will be the Hubby's 50th birthday present.

11. You could try online...
either autotrader or CarMax. Possibly make a weekened roadtrip out of state to pick it up or something.

15. I believe CarMax has the option of having the car/truck delivered to a facility closer to you.

12. We bought one two weeks ago.
A 2009 Limited but no Nav system. I drove a 2008 and loved it----they told us it will be in in about 16 weeks. I hope so! My Jeep is on it's last legs.

Congratulations on your wedding----I am so happy for you, and loved the pictures!

13. Congratulations!!!
Jason showed me the pics earlier and you all look so blissfully happy.

So many firsts this year. The U.S. is finally changing for the better in some big ways if we just ignore everything that has emanated from the Bush administration.

Big hugs to you both. :loveya:

17. Don't worry if they don't have it in stock
The dealer can trade vehicles with another dealership to get the one you want there. We do them all the time, someone just has to have a red Jetta and we don't have one, but another dealer does so we do a trade. :)

And if you have to go on a waiting list, it's worth it. :)

19. Two things:
CONGRATULATIONS, being first.

Second, do some google searching on all electric cars. Some SUV's and SUT's are coming around the bend (late 2008/early 2009) that are going to give hybrids alot of competition.

20. Wow, you hit that boring married couple stage pretty quick there.

I bought a Prius early in 04, when there was a six month waiting list everywhere. I emailed every dealer within a few hours of here, and all were sold out with a waiting list, but a couple offered to sell me one for over list. Some weren't bad deals. In a couple of cases, the person who had ordered the car backed out, and they hadn't contacted the next person on the list. So, there are ways.

I wound up buying one online. I searched Autotrader, and found literally about five in the whole country being sold. The closest was Michigan (I'm in Austin). Some were used, some were new and way over list. The used ones had very few miles on them, and were from people who just didn't like them. I wound up buying one on EBay, and had to click Buy It Now, less than half an hour after it was listed. I drove to Connecticut (from Austin) with one kid and my parents and niece, spent a couple of days in New York, and drove back. The car had about 5K miles on it, so it was new enough. Best car I've ever bought.

Boring story, I know, but the point is that there are ways to find an Escape if you've got a bit of time. The story got a little more exciting--we saw Zell Miller at a Cracker Barrel on Jimmy Carter Blvd in Atlanta! And my kid ran over his foot with a toy VW. I bought her dessert for that!

he bought it used with all the bells and whistles... it does everything but do your laundry!

It isn't huge (well that's a plus for gas), but I expected the mileage to be better.

Where the wedding pix? :hi:
