after my cleaning of the fridge my daughter's friend and mom came over and the girls went swimming until about 4 when it got so smoky out they had to go in the house. I think the whole state is on fire.

5. Must be something south of me. I know there is fire up by Placerville
But I am not seeing it. And it would be unlikely to be affecting you in Elk Grove....

15. any idea from where? I saw some jackass in placer country started a blaze by
mowing his lawn and then all the neighbors had to break out the hoses in case the fire jumped.

Too late for the local news, so I have no idea. But I live in Folsom so the hills are pretty damn succeptible to fire right now....
On edit, it looks like it is coming from the North, really smokey that way......

4. i'm not worried about my own house but the smoke is pretty bad and there are
so many fires going right now it could be from anywhere. The only good thing about today is that the winds died down a lot so hopefully that will help out the firefighters who must be beyond exhausted at this point. Some clown up in Placer country started a huge fire by mowing his lawn which caused all of his neighbors to have to hose down their own property in case the fire jumped.

6. Sorry to hear that.
Stay safe. This story I was just reading is pretty darn scary:

California fights 400 fires, bakes in heat wave

:(

7. The air quality is pretty bad here.
My eyes are itchy and the sky has been very hazy all day --- looks like classic smog. At least it's only 90 today.

17. It's nasty out there.
Not the brownish-orange sunless post-apocolyptic sky from last summer, but pretty nasty none the less.

I just got back from picking up some furniture that was on freecycle, and I had to drive home with my windows open because the hatch was up and I didn't want to suffocate myself with exhaust, and wow, the air went from normal to extra-chunky in the time it took me to drive to Natomas and back.

24. 386 fires in Northern California right now......
Most small, but a couple of big ones in Napa and Sonoma which they say is where all the smoke is coming from.

I know there are quite a few in the sierras....

28. I will
My thoughts that wildfires could not possibly get close to me was dashed last fall. I am now relatively ready to through the photos and important papers into the car and be ready to go at a moment's notice now.

27. Big fire started Saturday evening near Foresthill

Was there for a wedding Saturday evening. About 10 minutes before the outdoor wedding was supposed to start, we got hit with about 10 minutes of really intense rain. Lots of thunder and lightening before and after. (And a beautiful rainbow right after, over the valley behind where the ceremony was taking place. :) )

This morning Foresthill was thick with smoke. Heard on the radio this afternoon (KVMR Nevada City) that the Foresthill blaze was one of the biggest in the area right now.

Also, just talked to my wife on the phone this evening (she's currently in San Jose, on her way to Africa!), and they said it looked like some of the ridge lines down there were on fire, and wanted to know if I'd heard anything about it.

Good luck out there folks, and keep those defensible spaces cleared if you're in a rural area!
