Damn you inspection station!
I waited at that friggen inspection station for a solid hour (which is not bad considering how bad it used to be when inspection was required annually) and my car failed because a little bit of rubber was coming off my windshield wiper. I could barely tell where it was falling off when I got home and checked it. Still I guess it's better than 2 years ago when it cost me $800 in emissions work to get it passed.

Yet my old POS seemed to sail through inspection every time, I don't get it

4. For a fucking WIPER BLADE?!?
That's what prompted me to think "Soviet Union."

It's like, "Comrade motorist! Bumper stickers faded and radio receives static on state-run station! GULAG!"

6. It's so minor that I didn't even notice it needed replacing when it RAINED!!
Still a $15 blade is soooooo much better than say needing a new exhaust system or something

10. Now I'm thinking of the time a friend and I ditched school
and drove all over the Monterey Bay Area in my '66 Chevy. I say "my," but it wasn't legally mine yet, as I was 17 and didn't have a job.

Anyway, this was when Kollyforniya had surprise roadside vehicle inspections, and somewhere outside Watsonville one found us. I got written up for two tires with insufficient tread (I probably lost some of it doing 97 mph on Highway 25 outside of Hollister, but that's another story) and had 15 days to replace said tires and get the ticket signed off.

Well, like I said, I didn't have a job then, and I couldn't exactly say to my dad, "Hey, I got busted for bad tires while I was cutting school the other day and jammed to Hollister and Watsonville and Santa Cruz, so could you buy a coupla new ones?"

I was sweating buckets.

On the Saturday before the Monday I had to get it signed off, Dad bought two new tires.

5. I must shamefacedly admit having used my status as a female to pass vehicle inspection
I used to go to a place in New Hampshire owned and run by a good-natured old perv. I would bring the exact same vehicle that the exact same guy had just failed for my husband, walk in wearing a short skirt and say sweetly, "Ken, would you inspect me?"

I used to get a sticker without him even leaving the building to look at the thing.

7. I hate having to pay extra to get my car inspected
so I go to the state run location which apparently gives you no female slack! :(

14. Our inspections in NC are privatized. I'm taking my car Thursday a.m.
to the local gas station down the street where they'll charge me $30. to tell me everything's ok.
But if they find something--they'll replace it and then pass the vehicle.
