Does anyone else feel totally beat down by the current job market? My two degrees in political science are totally useless. *sigh*

2. I have a degree in Political Science too. |
|
And one in English. These days that and 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee. Maybe we need to see if the Obama campaign is ready to start hiring in our areas yet.

from some company called Grassroots Campaigns, Inc. or something that claims you can work in some of his state campaign offices. Salary level sucks, but it's something to look into I suppose.

5. What industry have you been working in? |

A degree is enough to get your foot in the door, experience is what makes you marketable.

8. The challenge becomes education vs. vocation.... |
|
Some degrees by their nature are more about learning and knowledge than preparation for the work world. The easy examples are things like English which is fascinating versus Nursing. With a wife and son with English degrees, I don't think anyone should be surprised by the vocational limitations presented. On the other hand, daughter graduated with a degree in accounting, had a job in hand for 9 months before graduation, a signing bonus, and relocation expenses. She is starting at a salary greater than my wife makes after 32 years of teaching. Wife knows a hell of a lot about literature, writing, but daughter knows internal audit.
Its not rocket science where the jobs are, its just that they are not necessarily emotionally attractive to many.
