$100 bills - What do you Loungies think? |
|
I am of the opinion that folks who pay for things (especially items less than $10) with $100 bills are showing off.
You have to actually GO TO THE BANK to get $100 bills, they do not come out of the ATMs at this point, and usually when I see someone paying with a Benjamin, they usually pull out a whole wad of Benjamins and make it a point to flash them in the person they are paying's face.

1. I carry large amounts of cash when we vacation in Santa Fe... |
|
but always walk into the bank on the Plaza to break some down. Hell, I worry about using a $10 at the farmer's market. I'm kind of an exact change person. I always have $2.01 for coffee in the AM.

I go into my credit union, or sometimes I get money back from my grocery store...
I tell them any size bill you have!
So...occasionally I get a one hundred dollar bill...
I try to use it in a store where they won't faint!
And that's generally the meat market...
And only when I'm getting a lot of meat...
But they don't mind...
So there!

It was birthday money. I normally don't like using them because (a) I don't pay with cash often and (b) I don't pay for things between $50-100 often.

9. I always try to use correct change |
|
because I know what a hassle it is for store clerks to keep change in a drawer, but I'll never forget what a guy in my local liquor store told me.
One day, years ago, I walked into this guy's store to buy some smokes, and all I had was a twenty. Now this was back when smokes were like 85 cents, and I apologized to the man as I handed him the twenty saying something like "sorry, it's all I got". He looked me straight in the eye and said; "Son, don't ever be sorry for 'only' having twenty dollars in your pocket"!
Since then I still try to make it easy for cashiers, but I'm never sorry if all I have is a large bill.:)

13. I have a $100 bill occasionally and . . . |
|
that's how the bank where I go cashes my check unless I request a specific breakdown and I usually don't, so from time to time I use one in a store and trust me I am certainly not showing off as I work but I'm broke LOL.

I know lots of the blue collar guys around here don't have checking accounts, so they cash their checks at the company's bank (that the paycheck is drawn on) and pay cash all week

28. Ain't that the truth. |
|
I can remember when a twenty would get me half a tank of gas, a pack of smokes, a six pack of beer, and a late night breakfast at Red's Diner.
A hundred dollars was pretty much my take home pay for the week and a five could carry me through a week day.

If I'm purchasing something that's $25 or more, I have no problem using a $100 bill. If it turns out that a $100 bill is the only thing in my wallet, I'll try to get it changed into something smaller before I use it to buy a little something.
Some vendors actually appreciate getting rid of a few extra twenties once in a while - makes the "drop" a little easier.

|
and sometimes that includes $100's. When I pay for things I'm usually oblivious as to who will notice me so it's not a matter of showing off. I use cash maybe 1% of the time, the other 99% goes on the plastic. :)

19. I know the type of person you're talking about |
|
There's usually a big show of drawing out the bundle and leisurely peeling off a bill (quite often the thumb is licked first). And yes, that wad of bills is really not necessary in today's world of debit cards, especially when the wad is packed with hundreds. I just want to know how they sit with that huge bundle of cash in their pocket. (And, of course, where I can get me a bundle like that...)

But, I digress. Sometimes people of professions that are largely paid in cash will have a good bit of $100s in their pocket. Personally, I'd not flash it about. I'm one of those that goes into a store knowing what I'm buying and peel the 20's or the single hundred off and put it in the other pocket. I pull out only what I intend to use.
That last statement sounded dirty.

38. The only people this probably does not apply to |
|
are people like my parents. They live in a pretty remote part of So. IL. The one bank in town just got their first ATM and the nearest 2nd bank is over 20 miles away. They are in their 60's and have always carried cash. They live in an area where everyone carries around a lot of cash - safely. Dad gets what he needs for the week, and the bank usually gives it in 100's and 50's. I watched my grandparents do this when they were alive, too, so that's why I think in their case it does not apply. Mom said she should be getting an ATM card in a few months, so hopefully they will stop carrying so much cash. As you can probably tell, they live in an area that is about 20 years behind the times. I was born in 1970, but I remember Grandma talking on her party line phone!

i know that people don't always have bank accounts (my roommate being one of them), but if you cash your check, you can always as for some of it in smaller bills.
that said, i hate carrying around large amounts of cash...it makes me nervous. plus, if i carry any significant amount of cash, i blow through it like the sun won't rise tomorrow

When I use the bills to buy stuff, it's because I don't want to make a special trip to the bank to have them broken into smaller bills!
