What a fantastic read! Slow, deliberate, with a dictionary .. but what a read! I love Faulkner!

1. Would God I had died for thee, Oh Absalom, my son, my son! |
|
Great passage of scripture, too.
I've never read the book. You've got me interested now...
:hi: How've you been, Mac?

2. Read it! I should have known that the great Aristus would reply. |
|
It is probably the best starting point in Faulkner. But it is a hard read. I once said the same about Light in August. But do read Absolom before you read The Sound and the Fury. I have read most of Faulkner's major works, and I will re-read them before I die (I hope!).

3. I've loved the movie version of "The Reivers" for years, so I cracked the book. |
|
I could only get about 30 pages into it. It was very slow moving, and didn't seem to be going anywhere. I'm ashamed of myself for not sticking with it. I'll try it again someday. I did read and I enjoyed several of Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha short stories when I was in high school. I should probably try those again, too.

5. Hm... I was forced to read The Sound and the Fury |
|
in high school... and I found it challenging to say the least.
I had pretty much written off Faulkner because of it.

4. Time to reread Faulkner again. He's sort of intoxicating. |
|
That was my favorite and I can't even remember the plot(s) now.

6. "Why do you hate the South?" |
|
"I dont hate it," Quentin said, quickly, at once, immediately; "I dont hate it," he said. I dont hate it he thought, panting in the cold air, the iron New England dark; I dont. I dont! I dont hate it! I dont hate it!"
Yep, time to read it again. Thanks.
