I want a kitty. I want, I want, I want. My girlfriend just sent me the talking kitties youtube video, and I think it was what finally broke my brain about complaining about wanting a kitty. I want one. My brother gets to have one. My sister has several. Why can't I have one? I want a kitty.

the first one is adorable, and I love the cat watching tv, which I've seen before, but is a real winner.

11. You aren't allergic to Siberian Forest cats |
|
they are hypoallergenic because they lack the protein in their saliva which causes the histamine reaction: http://www.siberiancatworld.com/

5. because I'd be a bad cat dad |
|
I'm away from home for a month straight some times, and I wouldn't want to make people watch the cat. Also, they get lonely, and since I live alone, I don't think it would be the right thing to do. On the long-term practical side of things, I don't know if I'll be able to get a job that will sponsor me for a visa extension when my student visa runs out, and the UK has very strict rules about animals coming into the country - I don't know about going from here to the US though. If I got one here and had to move in 3 years, I'd just die if I had to give it up. Sucky, sucky ,sucky. I had cats when I was a kid, but they stayed at my parents' house when I was in college. The last one died a few years ago. It was sad (and I'm very sorry to hear about Gray, Thom :( ) Since then I've just moved around so much that it wasn't possible. Now it's possible, but I think I would be a jerky cat dad.

8. It sounds like you're being very smart about this. |
|
You're being responsible by not having a cat. I'm sorry that you can't have one, but you're right. :(
I hope that you get a chance to settle down someplace stable and have some loving animals to keep you company. :)

15. I know I'm being responsible, but maybe being responsible is dumb |
|
A few years ago, my girlfriend wouldn't stop talking about getting a dog, and I told her that it was a horrible idea. Well, one day we met the greatest dog at rescue day at the pet store when we were there for something else, and knew that that was the pup for us. The dog is a giant hassle (it lives with her, not with me), and complicates lots of things, but it has also brought endless amounts of joy into our lives. That pooch is more well traveled than most people that I know.... so I wonder if I got a cat that I might be able to make it work. I just don't know.

18. Why don't you see if a local shellter or animal rescue has some "foster" programs? |
|
Some of them will look for people to care for animals between rescue and their forever homes.

There are some cats that prowl around outside of my house, but I don't know if they're strays, or just pets that people let go outside. None of them seem too friendly, but I haven't tried to feed them or anything either.

9. I had to order a feral trap over the internet to catch him |
|
Riff Raff was 100% feral - now a couple years later he is about 70% pet, 30% feral :D

10. You might want to consider spending some time helping out |
|
at your local animal shelter. You can get your kitty fix without bringing one home.

12. Or fostering. I did it for a while and never once |
|
couldn't find a home for any of them. They all found WONDERFUL forever homes, which made it easier to let them go.

Kitties are great friends. But REMEMBER, if you give them a home .....they're YOUR RESPONSIBILITY for the next 16(?) years or so...
Can you REASONABLY "promise" that? ...... Many people 'do' and live up to that expectation.
If you don't think that's a reasonable expectation, there are many programs where you can help socialize kitties w/o the long term committment. (Do some good where you are able).
Peace, M_Y_H

I want a kitty too but like you I don't have the time to take care of a kitten properly. Am gone often over the weekends, vacation ... it wouldn't be fair.
So I live through kitty pics on the Internets. :)
