Where are you going, and what will you be doing?

1. Trying to decide if I'm going to sit in
the front yard or the back yard. I can't even afford to go to the grocery store, much less anywhere else.

2. I already had mine
I flew into Grand Junction, Colorado this last weekend. My band went on tour through Colorado and I joined up with them for a few days. This was a real treat for me because I haven't been able to play with them since I moved to DC from San Diego in January. With no rehearsal, I was able to jump in like I had never left.

Man, I miss home.

Stayed home and worked on packing our stuff for 2 weeks. However, we're moving to France in September, so I didn't feel too sorry for myself.

42. lucky you!
My girlfriend is moving from France back to the US this summer, and I'm pissed about it. With her living there, it's meant that all of my vacations are vacations to France.... drool... I seriously want to move there. What city are you moving to?

7. Assuming a client will pay me on a project,
my boyfriend and I are planning on a 10-day trip thusly:

leave by plane from RDU to LAX. Spend 4 days in LAX with hotel and rental car. Going to see my sister, my BIL and their kids who live in Orange Co. Then, leave by Amtrak from LA to Chicago and then Chicago to my former abode - New York City - where we would spend 2 days (my boyfriend has never been there). Then, we leave from Penn Station headed back to Raleigh on Amtrak. Except for the NY to Raleigh segment, all other Amtrak segments I priced included a roomette sleeping accommodation (which includes all meals).

If this happens, it will be at some point in August.

8. We are!
And we deserve it, dammit! LOL

We are going to the beach in a few weeks and to visit our son. My yearly trip to the ocean sustains me during the winter.... I feel like I didn't have a summer if I don't walk along the shore.

12. I am hoping to go on my first real vacation this summer.
I've only been on two before... and those weren't vacations so much as just accompanying people on trips to visit their families. I had to take time off and it got me out of the state, though, so I sorta count it.

But this summer I am hoping to take my kids to some touristy place and stay in a hotel and have fun doing touristy things. We'll see how the money goes... :)

13. Leaving tomorrow, in fact
Flying cross-country to visit my brother in SoCal. Going with my mom and MG Jr. and leaving Mr. MG to have his own kind of vaca--eating chicken wings at various restaurants every night for two weeks and making a mess of the house (and likely sitting around in his underwear).

I am eternally grateful that we got our plane tickets months ago, when oil was "only" just over $100 a barrel.

17. well, I spent 5 days in the Dakotas with my husband when he was sent
up there for a well ..the trip up was fun and the scenery was gorgeous

then I just got back from 4 days with my sisters in Connecticut...first time we 3 were all together since 2004 when our mother died. We had a blast; the only thing missing was my daughter and my youngest sister's daughter. Both were tied up with work and school, respectively and could not make the trip. Next time we will have an all sisters and daughters reunion.

and hopefully I will go visit our daughter in Arizona before I go back to work. There are SOME advantages to being out of a job.

I have never been to PHoenix so looking forward to that one. She works a wild schedule so if I get to do the trip, I will be calling out the Phoenix area DU group to maybe meet to eat one evening.

20. We booked a cruise to Alaska with my husband's family.
We're flying to Seattle, where I'll visit with my family before and after the cruise. Then we go to Alaska for a week. Then my husband will fly home while I fly to see my best friend in LA before she has her baby. I can't afford a separate trip to LA, so this marathon trip was the only way to make the crazy airfare prices worth it. It's going to be fun though!

21. Playing groupie in Mirande, France
I guess that since we're actually married, I no longer qualify for groupie status. But it's the first trip to Europe we're making together and we're doing it with a passel of performers from here, so I think I'll get away with being a groupie for now.

This is where we are going and it is ALL we are doing - five days of American country music in the French countryside, including car shows, monster trucks, and line dancing competitions.

Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 03:27 PM by nomad1776
Nothing compared to the interesting stuff you have on tap. I will be spending a week in Albany, the first week of August. That's where the Giants are having their training camp. I go to that, and I meet up with all my friends from my Giants message board. I have been doing this for a few years and I really enjoy it. Giants football, meeting up with old friends. One year we actually got Harry Carson to appear at our BBQ for free. What a great guy, he spent hours with us answering questions, taking pictures, signing stuff and telling stories. He is a class guy all the way and we were so happy to see him finally get into the Hall of Fame.

But will probably take a go-nowhere holiday. I've been doing that the past few years. But I'm itching to hit the road again. Maybe Argentina or Ecuador. The nightmare of flying is causing me to pause. It just ain't fun anymore. But it would be nice to get South America under my hooves - then I can claim 6 continents.

35. #1 priority of the summer is to get the SO all moved in, then several short camping trips...
...around CA. Big Sur, somewhere on the beach around San Diego, Joshua Tree (when the weather cools down)--beautiful places with maximum photographic potential.

A "real" vacation will come later when we're all settled in.

36. I will be vacationing in Reggio Calabria in September--
Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 08:17 PM by vixengrl
eating too much, misunderstanding the language, and getting a sunburn. Also, I will have other people decide how much sugar should go in my coffee, which will be espresso, and I will be completely divorced from certain inconveniences I do need to be forcibly removed from: the news, the internet, small talk, the idea that I *have* to do things...for three weeks, which for me is a long, long time.

I will spend time walking, and with my husband, and on the beach. I might read something if I take books with me. I will wear comfortable clothing. I will be happy to visit with the people I met a few years ago when I was last there, although I am scarcely more able to talk with them, the intricacies of grammatical Italian having so far escaped me. (I understand and can kind of follow conversations, to a point--I contribute niente)

I am looking forward to it as a necessary interruption of my regular schedule. It'll slow things down, and I'll get to stop and smell the bergamot.

43. cross-country road trip
First I'm flying back to the US to visit my parents who I haven't seen for a year, then I'll be flying out to CT and driving from their to San Diego with my girlfriend, who's moving there. We haven't decided what route to take yet, but we'll probably visit my sister's family in Kentucky along the way, which sort of limits us. I'll also try to visit friends in LA and San Francisco while I'm out in California.
