Summer reading list, did your kids get one? |

We went to the bookstore today and brought the list, it's an interesting mix that rsmarter Jr. settled on.
2001 A space odyssey 20,000 leagues under the sea Little women A tree grows in brooklyn.
I bought the new David Sedaris book and the last book i will ever buy about George W., it's titled "Goodnight Bush" and yes it looks exactly like "Goodnight Moon" and it's funny.

1. My stepkid got a list of suggestions (she just finished K)... |
|
The list includes the Pokemon books and a bunch of TV tie-ins. I guess they want to encourage reading in general, but still...
We'll stick to books where the story, not the associated merchandise, is the point of the book.

3. She's 5...just finished kindergarten. |
|
Still...have you seen the Scholastic order form recently? There aren't any actual stand-alone books--just movie tie-ins, stickers, and plastic crap.

9. Do read it. I read it a couple of years ago. |
|
It is excellent. I hadn't read it before then. I also read "O! Pioneers" by Willa Cather right after reading "A Tree Grows Brooklyn."
Both are so good.

11. I should re-read Little Women too. |
|
It's been a long time since I've read it.
Also, I need to read "Rebecca" since I have always loved the movie so much, but never have read the book. "Last night I dreamed I went to Manderlay again." Quite possibly the best opening of a film (or novel), ever.
