You know who's not around anymore? Salin.
I saw her on the Oscar thread. She was really really nice. I wish she still posted.

I suppose it's only us losers who keep posting on the same website for 7 years. Normal people get a life after a while, don't they? x(

13. Thank you -
for the past couple of years, life has been so busy (60+ hour work weeks) that I rarely have time to do much more than read. But I generally do a twice a day read of DU. When I have posted, in recent times, I rarely get a response (certainly due to the size of the community) - so it almost feels like I am once again a "newbie". It is very heartwarming to read that some Duers still recognize me on DU - and still read my meandering posts. :D

Reading this gave me a lift. I had become to feel pretty anonymous when I post. I greatly appreciate your compliment.

Peace,

salin

15. Hi there... and interestingly enough
while NMSA and I hadn't talked for several months - we were on the phone today.

Didn't we laugh - on some PMs - about being "called out" as freepers? After being here awhile that became an amusing thing (give that there was so much online evidence per our postings to the contrary!

It is good to "see you" tonight, and thanks for the kind sentiments.

the phone. I have since gotten a different cell phone number and haven't really given it to anybody since i hate phone chat except for mapping out logistics when I travel or meet people or for emergencies. I generally don't participate too much on DU or hang with DUers offline like I used to either.

As for our PMing I honestly forget what we talked about. I just remember you and your niceness but I forget details! :hi:

16. Thanks and a big HELLO!
You are absolutely right. The project is now almost at maturity, doing very well, but still consuming 60+ hours a week. I still real LBN and the oped forum daily - but posting time is almost negligible. I have been very fortunate that our paths have crossed on those times that I have been posting. :D

Heck at one point you graciously put together a silly (and embarrassing, but in good humor so okay) icon for me back in my young and fairly superficial days. (Do you even remember that?)

I hope that you are well, and that life is delivering you interesting developments!

Peace,

salin

20. Our dear Oscar thread originator
and now author (how cool is that!) sent me the heads up per this thread.

I still read DU in the early am and late pm - but have little time to post. When I have written a post in the
past couple of years, (because I post so rarely) it is often like being a newbie again. No one responds and it as if one is talking inside of a windtunnell (where the sound gets absorbed). It is very nice, and flattering to read this thread. Thank you for the kind words.

Sadly I have to report, that even though I don't post much these days, it isn't a sign that I have a "normal life". I still work very long hours (60+ a week). After the Bushjr years, many of us don't have a life (outside of work)!

Thanks again for the kind words and remembrance on this thread. It is very nice to be remembered, and so kindly. :hi:

And I miss seeing you here and here, tho I do see your mom from time to time. (Her mom is also great.)

When did we meet (on DU first) - whenever it was, that was shortly after I joined DU. I miss our beers at the Uptown after the Wed. war vigil... I don't even know if that's still going on. I heard from Christine b/c I left my sleeping bag at her house when I went to Washington with UPJ. I don't really miss our journalist "friend." Long story. Don't know if he published that book yet or not.

Hope things are going well for you.

I tried to carry on your word association threads but I don't think I've met the challenge.

27. Hello!
I still try to get down there on Saturdays - but am reduced to come back up here on Sunday - so my time in your neck of the woods is quite short. One of these days we have to meet somewhere for coffee - maybe the bakehouse or paneras near the mall?

Mom and I just got back this week from a second trip to Norway (we went two years ago, as well) to see family. What a fabulous trip!

I will never forget how we met. You posted about seeing anti war literature/articles at the local farmer's market back before the Iraq invasion (summer 2002) - and I posted back that I was the person who found the articles and that my mom had reproduced them and brought them to the peace table at the Farmer's Market! I think we ended up going for coffee that very same day!

I haven't read anything from our journalist "friend" in quite some time, he was.... well... interesting.

I hope that you and your sons are well. Life is busy, but also rewarding here in Indy.

Bsst,

salin

33. Norway sounds great!
Yes, I do remember you pm'd me that Sunday and we met an hour or so later at Panera. I just didn't know when it was... as in year, time of year... I remember we sat outside so it wasn't too cold. However, I am the ultimate space cadet as far as dates, numbers, time... my internal clock's battery is dead.

My kids are doing really well. Youngest just graduated h.s. and will start college in fall. Ack! I'm so old now. oh well. it happens. I am, unfortunately, still hurt and prone to anger or tears about things that should be long gone in my life (ifyouknowwhatimean.)

Yes, we should try to get together one day... maybe a Sat. at the Farmer's Mkt? That means I would have to get up before 11 on a Saturday, but I think I can swing it. Neenie's, right by there, has real gelato made from grandma's (Neenie's) recipes.

I'm applying for jobs elsewhere, btw. I hope I'll be within driving distance of my kids, but if not, I'll just have to deal. Waiting to hear back on two positions now, but still need to send out more resumes. Had an interview yesterday, in fact. We'll see. (biting fingernails)

Oh, I found out that our "friend" is teaching journalism near you, at least part-time. Still doing his thing for various places, tho. Did I ever tell you what happened when he came to my house? If so, we DO need to get together for coffee or gelato. All I can say or he'll jump all over me when his psychic hotline finds out I've said something about him. :eyes:

39. You have raised your boys well!
I know there were some challenges, and now the youngest is ready to go off to college. Good on him and good on you!

I often don't get to start my drive down on Saturday until the afternoon, so the farmers' market may not work. But this Nelli's that you refer to (that I haven't yet heard of, nor tried out) sounds like a good place to meet sometime this summer. There is so much to catch up on!

I remember a rather unseemly and inappropriate assertiveness story that you told me about our "friend" - the journalist. I don't recall the details, but I do recall the "ick factor" response that I had to it.

It is great to connect on this thread - I look forward to catching up with yout this summer. This weekend my time will be pretty brief down there - as I am working on a grant that is due Monday. However, in general my hours are a little lighter in the summer and I don't always work on Saturdays (as I tend to have to do the rest of the year.)

46. Your memory is quite good
I did throw a hissy fit or two per some strange lounge dynamics. I later found it rather amusing that some of the posters who had been rather obnoxious at one point, later lamented about the episodic hostile gangups that would occur from time to time in the lounge. I haven't kept up with the lounge in the last year or so, so I have no idea if this commentary would apply to the contempary lounge forum.

You have a good memory. :D

that a third party had to suggest that you and I 'connect' despite and beyond the heatedness of that years GDP (it drove me crazy four years ago - so this time I pretty much avoided the whole forum - and thus it never drove me nuts!) And after that intervention... (from the third, and beloved party)... a nice mutual admiration society between the two of us was formed. :D I always deeply appreciate the (all to rare) times that our paths cross.

:D I don't have much of a life, but that fact has nothing to do with my posting on DU for seven *gasp - has it really been that long - years*.
