The Progressive Insurance commercial=don't buy it! |
|
How stoopid are women? Stoopid enough to not know her husband has a boat/rv/whatever? Yea, wicked lousy comedy imo.

1. Seems that there are lots of commercials that portray women |

in a bad light.
Like the beer commercial where the guy tells his wife/girlfriend he has to go to his buddy's house so his buddy can "vent." WTF? Like the woman is such a harridan that she can't be okay with the guy going to hang out with his buddies for an afternoon, drink some beer and watch a game? He has to LIE to her???
Or the Cialis commercial where the couple is always interrupted, and the guy talks about having "up to 36 hours for when the time is finally right" for the little woman. What? Every single woman in the world has to be wooed for 36 hours before she can be "in the mood"? BS, I say.
Edited to add: In the case of the Progressive commercial, I don't see it as the woman being stupid, but rather as a case of the man thinking he has to hide everything from her because, well, hell, she's SUCH a bitch that honesty and discussion are out of the question.

2. You know how it is. All men are one way, all women another. Larry the Cable Guy told me. |
|
Commercials are the worst at furthering stereotypes, probably because they have such a short time to develop a character and situation that they have to rely on cliches. Men never ask for directions and act like kids, kids are wise and act like grownups, women are either saintly and patient with their idiotic men or shallow and obsessed with superficialities. When they aren't pure decoration, that is.

3. Or, they are like the woman in the cell phone company commercial |
|
for rollover minutes, when she discovers one of the kids has thrown his rollover minutes into the trash. She starts berating him, he tries meekly to defend himself, brother sits in silence, and dad hides behind the newspaper and sighs.

4. Dad "rolls his eyes" and doesn't contribute. . Ugh. So maddening! |
|
But that Progressive one blows me away because the wife is such a tool! If he has all these toys, where's he telling her he's been, and why doesn't she have a clue? :nuke:

5. Yeah, that one was pretty baffling. |
|
I mean, how does one HIDE all that stuff, or, alternately, how does one not SEE all that stuff? Does the husband have secret storage somewhere? Did he get a super raise in order to afford all that, or is the family on the verge of bankruptcy but the wife doesn't know it?

6. If she doesn't know about it, when does he use it? |
|
Are they that removed from each other? It's either dumb or families are further apart than I thought.

8. It's usually dad who is stupid... |
|
...but I guess according to TV, one partner is the fool and the other the manipulator. I wonder who writes this bullshit, and if they ever had a good relationship with anyone else.
