1. Yikes...
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 11:26 AM by Gormy Cuss
Is there any air left around your area? Nice that they're blaming the Democrats for one of the fires.

As an aside, I saw this photo in the SF Chronicle and thought: WTF are these people thinking, walking around without masks or scarves over their faces?

Air is officially unhealthy here today and predicted to stay that way through the weekend, but at least we can see three feet in front of us.

5. Funny that is says the smoke is from a fire in Lake County
There are big fires in Butte, Glenn, Trinity, Tehama, and about 5 other counties in the area.

Typical Chronicle attitude... the state ends north of Lake Berryessa. :P

2. It is getting ugly....
I am readying to go the High Sierra Music festival in Quincy next weekend (I go on Wed)and am wondering if the fires and the smoke are going to allow the fest to go on.

yesterday, they evacuated the boy scout camp by Butte Meadows. I grew up there camping not far from there and once thught about buying the Bambi Inn in Butte Meadows.

I know you live close tot he area affected and hope it doesn't affect you too much. Be well.

3. I don't know if you can GET to Quincy
The 70 is closed near Chico (or at least it was yesterday).

Maybe the fire will have burned through or be out by then, but I'd check local conditions before heading out.

We're in town, so hopefully it won't get too close to us. Sure is smoky here though. :(

15. Usually fires are named after places
So the "Humboldt" fire started on Humboldt Road, the "Zaca" fire started at Zaca ranch, and so forth.

There is a small mountain called Democrat mountain right in the area, and I'm sure the fire is named after the mountain.

7. It's getting ugly in Monterey county, too.
Big fire outside of the town of Big Sur, and an even bigger fire not far away just west of King City. They haven't had a burn there in decades, and it's fairly inaccessible to fire crews, so if it really gets going, it's going to be bad. x(

We're supposed to go camping there next weekend--that's starting to look iffy now.

14. So it's YOU who is causing all the horrible air!
Here in Rocklin it's just terrible. Right in the valley, it seems we're getting the smoke from every fire all around us. If the wind changes, we just get the smoke from another fire. It will never stop. Weatherguy says it MIGHT be clear by Saturday. He also said last week might be in the 80s...shows I should trust him.

Really it's unfortunate that all these fires are going on. The air just gets so mucked up and then all those houses get destroyed. Bad for everyone.

16. Most of the fires up here are just burning out in the hills
So far I think 15 houses have been destroyed.

I saw 5 Oakland fire department trucks rolling through Redding earlier today. :P
