1. Why would it be gauche?
How else are you going to open the door to get the breeze without letting all the bugs in?

(Yes, I do have a screen door, and the screen switches out for a glass panel in the winter.)

3. Very very few houses in our tract have screen doors
We are in SoCal so we do not have to worry about mosquitoes.

12. Good point.
I never leave the front door open, but damn, I would like to be able to without having all the palmetto bugs in the neighborhood dropping in.

10. mmmm ganache
I've never made my own, which is probably a good thing because I'd weigh like 1000 lbs if I knew how to make ganache

6. Where I lived in Reno, neighbors didn't have screen doors on front door
Edited on Fri Jun-27-08 03:29 PM by Whoa_Nelly
But, I installed one so that I could let the air circulate better within the house, enjoying the evening breezes, and also so I could further insulate the door area winter and summer. I put in a screen door with storm window in it.

Screw the neighbors! Enjoy your home ;)
The first part of the above statement is not be taken literally :P

9. We use a full view screen door on our front entrance.
I don't use the screen due to grandkitty, so the glass panel stays in year round. Ours is similar to this one:

sorry for just a link, every since we got Vista I can copy but can't paste the pictures.

I understand what you're saying, one of my sons lives in a newer subdivision and I think there may be one or two on his street who have installed screen doors.

11. Absolutely NOT!
We have one (in a snooty neighborhood for South Mississippi.) Our neighbors didn't but then they decided hey thats a good idea. We also have one leading from our garage into the house. The neighbors thought that was a pretty good idea too. I'm one to leave doors open so my wife appreciates the screen doors. GO FOR IT!

15. No, but are you part of a neighborhood association?
Seems like exactly the sort of thing some neighborhood Nazi would get up in arms about.

18. No, thank heavens
In fact, we are in the rare position in Irvine where we own both the house and the lot it is on. Some folks here do not own the lots...

21. I like crossing swords with my neighborhood nazis
I cut my grass just a tad longer then theirs (for weed control.) We like gnomes. We have no kids. We don't have parties. We are the best neighbors in the neighborhood (relative to peace and tranquility.) The nazis know it and have resigned themselves not fuck with me over a pretty fucking silly issue. And we have screen doors.

When you are not using it, it slides out of the way.

20. As you know, here in Minnesota, unless you can afford to run your
AC constantly between late June and early September, it's a necessity *lol*
If there's nothing to prohibit it, it's your home - do what pleases you :hi:
