"Dark Knight" Selling Out Three Weeks Early
Batman fans anxious to get a glimpse of the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker are snatching up tickets online more than three weeks before The Dark Knight's July 17 premiere.

Dozens of midnight screenings of director Christopher Nolan's second installment in the bat-franchise have sold out, causing theaters across the country to tack on 3 a.m. showings to meet fan demand, according to online ticket retailer Fandango.

"We are currently seeing a surge in advance ticket sales," said Ted Hong, vice president of marketing for Fandango, which first began selling tickets for Dark Knight last Friday. "It makes sense that there's a rush for tickets -- it looks action-packed and film fans are anxious to see Heath Ledger."

When Fandango polled members back in March to determine which summer blockbusters its customers were most interested in, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull took first place, with Dark Knight coming in second. However, the scramble for advance Dark Knight tickets is currently outpacing Indy 4's presale numbers.

Indy 4 sucked. I hope this one doesn't disappoint.

1. This film walks an interesting line.
If Keith has successfully portrayed Joker, the Batman character may pale in comparison. Joker is a true archetype; there is little one can do against such a force. Unless the Batman has risen to the same level...the clips only show him riding around in tech in response. I'm interested in what he manages to do on a proactive level.

8. The problem with super-hero movies
is that after the first installment or two, they tend to get overcrowded with super-people. Spidey 1 and 2 were good movies, but Spidey 3 had Sandman and Venom/Eddie Brock, plus Gwen Stacy.

Same with the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney Batman movies. The first was pretty good with just Nicholson as the Joker, but Batman Returns was pretty overcrowded with Penguin, Catwoman and Max Shreck. Then, the 3rd movie was a train wreck with Two-Face & Riddler, plus Nicole Kidman and introducing Robin... and the 4th was even worse.

10. The advantage the Batman movies has is
one of the best directors working now, and a collection of outstanding actors. It makes everything easier to take.

From what I have been told, this one is very much a one villian movie. However, in addition to the Joker, there are several other bad guys. Scarecrow, Two-Face, and Sal Maroni are all bad guys in the movie. I believe Scarecrow is a miniscule part and Two-Face is most likely not in it. And my understanding is at this point he is more of a vigilante than a bad guy. And Maroni is the one who bites off more than he can chew with The Joker.

14. Two-face is definitely in this
in fact, from things I've read, Joker is a side-player, and this is more about Dent becoming two-face, meanwhile Batman has to deal with this Joker character at the same time.

15. Sorry I worded that wrong
I meant he is not in it as a bad guy so much. He is out for revenge for having his face burned and a death close to him. It is later that he becomes the bad guy.

6. Wow. A Remake of a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake of a tv show
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 07:43 AM by HypnoToad
that came from a cartoon and also had its own movie everybody forgets about, but I had no room for in the 'subject' line anyway...

Forgive me, but "Get Smart" (2008) looks exponentially more enthralling...

Would you believe, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" looks more interesting?

How about "Space Chimps" with 10 glasses of rum?

11. ...

hope everyone enjoys it. I think I've given up on summer movies. I'd rather stay home and watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or City of Lost Children.

The IMAX theater here will be showing it, so I'm definitely going to go see it there.
