Can Dogs Jump?
I've never seen a dog jump from a standing position. Can they do it? Cats scale high fences easily, but even a short fence will keep a dog in the yard.

1. I've known dogs that can clear a 6 foot fence from a standing position.
It's all in the back legs.

2. My 13 inch tall rat terrier can take a 5 foot fence
if she has enough of a run at it, and she can jump pretty high from a standing position too...I am working on training her to jump up to my arms from a sit at my feet.

3. My big dog is so senseless when in pursuit
he runs THROUGH fences. I have to look at his feet a lot because he steps on anything in the woods.

:hi:

4. Definitely
One in particular, my neighbor's lab will jump from a standing position right up onto a stone wall which is about 4 feet high. She looks like a kangaroo when she does it. :P

11. Joker( My wittle Lab) never showed such agility..
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 08:01 PM by Ahpook
Although he was extremely smart.

I had two cats and Mr. Joker in our house. It never failed, when i got home from work the house was torn to pieces . I knew they would play all day while i was gone because Joker was panting and cats scattered in any number of rooms:D

So now i am thinking Joker was the one knocking things off the nightstand or the kitchen counters?

It wouldn't surprise me a bit knowing him:)

I miss him:(

6. The Bouv Bounce is about 3 1/2 feet
just to show they're happy. Can jump a lot higher when they want to.

My next door neighbor had an Afghan hound that could clear a 4 ft. fence from a stand.

8. OMG, can they ever!
I had a Yorkie who could jump as high as a counter top. Straight up!

And they jump from a stand in agility all the time.

9. Both my huskies can jump straight up
...and stare me in the eye. When I approach the kennel, they'll go from sitting to five feet in the air, one move.

This is why the kennel fence is six feet. :D

10. Bailey my shepard mix
can jump about 4 feet from a standing position. He has jumped our fence more than once. He will usually only do it if he sees a cat or a squirrel.

And they launch from a standing position, if that counts.
