Joan Rivers...WTF?
Oh criminy but she's absolutely hilarious. How did I miss this all these years? I just watched her (and Alicia Silverstone) on The Graham Norton Show, and it was just the funniest damn thing I've seen in a very long time. Seemed totally unscripted, and she just...I have tears rolling down my face, she was so funny. Is this the norm for her?

1. Actually, yes.
Say what you will about her penchant for plastic surgery and the tackiest of the tack-o-ramas, she is one funny lady.

2. totally...
she was a major comedienne when I was a youngster...she is actually quite famous...very self-deprecating in her humor. :D

She is about 175 years old...

I think 175 is the number of face-lifts

3. I just saw that, too...
...I loved her describing the Russian guy to the available girls, i.e., one of his qualities was his close ties to the Russian mafia...:spray:

5. She was just so fluid, so off the cuff funny.
I cannot believe she's not top of the tree when comedy is discussed.

6. She was at the top of the tree a couple of decades ago...
back in the days of Cosby, phyllis Diller, etc. but she is still hillarious. She really has been at it a long time.

4. She's really talented
When I was a kid I always used to enjoy her and Phyllis Diller on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Here's a recent stand up

8. Graham's show is almost a guarantee laugh fest.
I also laugh at the fact that BBCAmerica will allow "shit" but not...well, a number of other words.

10. She was on the Stern show this past week.
And she was pretty funny. Being able to use your full arsenal only enhances the appearance. She's always been pretty good in stand-up and on interview shows.

18. I heard that show. What stuck with me is that she said she's not afraid of anything anymore, so I
think that has made her much more open and funny.

I think she just gets funnier every time I see her. I thought Alicia Silverstone was so sweet, too.

13. I like Joan. . . and Phyllis Diller
Phyllis Diller is about ninety now. She use to be one of the funniest. Her hair always looked like it had been run over with a bushwhacker.

14. Oh yeah, she's a riot. I saw her recent Vegas act on TV and it
was HILARIOUS, not to mention totally vulgar whenever possible.

I mean really shockingly vulgar!

No gaps, flat jokes or pauses. Totally seamless
routine.

21. Joan is great, but this thread saddens me.
Because it makes me realize the loss of George Carlin is that much greater.

The man could have made me laugh for the rest of my life, literally. At least there is a lot of recorded stuff I can listen to.

25. It's a shame she got boxed into the whole red carpet thing
Gave her a reputation for nastiness and made everyone forget how funny she is/was.

I thought she walked on water when this record came out:

26. We saw that last night, too.
She's hilarious. We try to not miss any of her TV interviews.

When we were flying out to San Francisco in 2004 to get married, unsure of whether or not we would actually be successful, Joan Rivers walked right by us as we waited for our plane at JFK. We took the encounter as a good gay sign that we were going to have a good time on our trip.

27. She's very talented
and used to be one of the very best standups. But she went too far into "mean" and became a parody of herself.
