Three hours of cult classics every Friday and Saturday night. Gawdz, I'd kill to have it all on DVD.

1. Those were great. Nice catch Oedi.
You'll remember this too... The Old Sourdough Show, with Watheekonoka (sp?) It was a couple of guys hawking MMM Carpet during a movie on KCIU, the perfect 36. Many a Mickey's Big Mouth drank and doobies smoked watching that show!

2. I never would've remembered the other guy's name
But the Old Sourdough was Gary... something. Later, when he hosted the movies alone, he spelled it "Ga3ry," thus becoming the first person to ever use 133t. The other guy reminded me a bit of Tommy Chong.

Before them, Movies 'Til Dawn was hosted by Jay Brown for Spartan Dodge, "where the Price Slasher lives. He's just a-hackin' and a-hewin' at those prices."

That was about the same time they had Carol Doda, "the Perfect 36," as their spokesperson and part-time editorialist. :)

20. "The Old Sourdough and Watchicanuka(sp?) show"
Before that they called themselves, "Ray Street and Bascom Avenue."

Jay Brown was taken off the "All night movie-go-round" and lost his
Dodge dealership after he was caught a-hackin' and a-hewin' on his
used car's odometers.

23. Good stuff!
Wachikanoka, yeah — or somethin' like that. Now it comes back.

I've actually wondered what happened to Jay Brown. Figured he died and was reincarnated as Glenn Hartzheim.

3. I loved Night Flight. I had forgotten how movie-oriented it was.
I remembered it mostly for music videos and performances.

5. That was later
For the first... I dunno, two or three years, it was totally about cult films, indie films, outtakes and stuff.

I bet an entire generation got turned onto the likes of "Reefer Madness" and "I Was a Zombie for the FBI" by Night Flight. :)

Oh, and stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmzxOh89vbQ

8. Yeah, it must have been later when we finally got cable.
Night Flight was on the USA Network, wasn't it?

I just remember having to watch Night Flight to get music videos, because our cable company didn't have MTV yet.

22. MST3k was a local program on Channel 41 "TV Heaven" before it went to cable.

They showed marathons of Get Smart and Batman well before the cable channels did. I love Joel Hodgson. Because he was local, I was able to see his stand up a few times.

Does anyone remember Commander USA's Groovy Movies? USA truly nurtured the strange woman I am today. I still have the ancient VHS tape that I recorded I Was A Zombie for the FBI"...

11. No, but I remember "Friday Night Videos".
This was before MTV was popular (or maybe even around?). Friday night for 3 hours, I think, they played music videos. I used to tape it (on the Beta VCR!) every week. :D

12. When they started showing music
that was the best place to see great stuff, the Dead, BOC, all kinds of stuff. Especially videos that you didn't see on MTV. Great show, loved it.

15. Whenever I think of "Night Flight", I think of this video..........
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IRrCZCN8Kj0

I also remember Fishbone's "Party At Ground Zero" on the same show. I think they were doing some kind of Cold War retrospective.

I'm with you on the DVD collection, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

21. I sure do
:)

And the fact that the producer has the same name as my next-oldest brother.

Remember when they'd play "J-Men Forever"? You can get that on Firesign Theater's website now :)
