How often do you say "Thank You" to others?
Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 02:29 PM by Breeze54
I mean, even when it's just a little thing someone might have done or said to you...

... for you. Do you feel the need to thank them? Or do you just forget about it and

not bother to acknowledge that someone thought of you and went out of their way,

even a little, to think about you? Why would you or why wouldn't you, thank someone?

1. Too often
Seriously. For instance, at the grocery store when the cashier hands me my change i say 'thanks' and when he/she thanks me for shopping at whereever, i say thanks again. That's one completely superfluous 'thanks.'

4. I do the same.... it makes them feel good, I think but
it also makes me feel good and I know I'll be going back there and they'll remember me, maybe, for saying thanks and maybe I'll get a little more help, if I need it the next time I'm there. Isn't that sort of the reason people leave tips at restaurants and bars? For a little better service?

2. If some one does something
or says something to/for me I thank them.

I say it to the cashiers in the store when they give me my change or my coupons
so, yeah I try to thank everyone.....

Being polite and saying thanks to others can open a lot of doors
that might have stayed shut. At least that's my theory. ;)

10. I say it all the time to people outside my house, but I've been trying to say it more
to my husband and daughter who live here. We taught our kids and and teach our grandkids to say it, but as time has gone on, we're not saying it as much to each other.

If my grandson, 19 months old, can say "fank oo gamma" when I pick up his ball for him, I can say it to my DH or my daughter more often than I have been.

12. I hear you... I think we all forget at times.
I forgot to thank my son for getting me some take out food the other night, without him even asking me if I wanted something. he just went there and got himself some food but then also got me some! I remembered to thank him very shortly after I swallowed the first bite though!! That was a very thoughtful thing for him to do!

15. all the time...
...and I reprimand children who do not graciously thank others.

I am truly grateful for the work others do to make my life simpler. The grocery checker, the retail clerk, the bus driver -- all of them get heartfelt thanks.

16. I always say thank you to strangers, and
write thank you notes for gifts from and favors done by friends. And I insist that my 15 year old do as well - even though her friends never do the same. I don't care. I think it sets a good example.

26. My Mom used to make us all write Thank You notes too.
I don't actually put ink to paper anymore but I do send e-mails and e-note thank you cards
to people who give me gifts during the year for B-Days and the Holidays.

I don't think it's an order but it doesn't hurt to pat yourself on the back, once in awhile either. ;)

We were taught manners back in the day, at home and school.

I so remember our teachers saying it was important to treat others with respect.

25. My dear Breeze54!
I was taught to say it also...

For instance, today, my husband picked up my empty coffee cup (I was happily ensconced on my couch) and took it in the kitchen...

He didn't need to...

And I thanked him!

I'm always thanking folks who do things for me!

It makes all of us happy...

Thank you for this thoughtful thread, sweetie...

I write thank you notes too. Can't help myself; I thank cashiers, the desk person at the gym, people who hold the door open for me, grocery store baggers, party hosts, waitstaff, restaurant seaters, airline security screeners, you name them, I thank them.

42. Good for you getting that job and glad you have customers to thank!
I've heard that people aren't shopping as much now, with all the higher food, gas
and 'what have you' prices going up. I was in a mall the other day (cutting through)
and I saw lots & lots of 70% & 80% off signs. On another note: My son took a new job
so he wouldn't have to say Thank You all day to the customers! But he'd been doing
that job for five yrs, so it gets old after awhile. ;)
