Has anyone seen the last two 2003 quarters? |
|
I've been looking and haven't seen any. I stopped at the bank this morning to deposit my paycheck and 4 of the ten people in line were there to deposit coins. I know this because the coin counter was not working and they all left angry.
Is the economy so bad that people are cashing in their change at a higher rate, therefore making it unnecessary to roll out the new quarters? If this is the case, how close are we to major trouble?

1. I love the conclusions... |
|
...that people jump to. Or maybe more precisely the forms of 'proof' used to make a point.

5. Interesting that YOU made a conclusion -- I did not. |
|
I asked questions hoping to gather more information on a few observations that I have made.
I grew up with sisters whose favorite defense was to ridicule any observation that I made that did not benefit them directly. They never could be bothered to come up with any evidence of their own, there arguements always equated to "Because."
So if you have anything of value to contribute, by all means, speak your piece. If "Because" is your best shot, well, sorry to have ruffled your feathers.

..."Is the economy so bad that people are cashing in their change at a higher rate, therefore making it unnecessary to roll out the new quarters?"
...can certainly be taken for a conclusion. A conclusion based on ONE trip to a bank.
You could also have asked:
Is there a fund raiser in town asking for peoples change?
Are more people going to the casino now?
Are there this many landlords with coin-op washers and dryers?

9. What makes you think it was based on one trip? |
|
Jumping to conclusions again are we? I'm at the bank at least twice a month. I stated an observation and proposed a hypothesis for comment. Any conclusions I make are after gathering more evidence.
Again, if you have something of value rather than just being negative, please contribute, otherwise, find someone else to play with. I'd even toss in a steak, to get the dog to play with you.

11. Then I suggest making a hypothesis based on... |
|
...real info, not silly observations.
"I'm at the bank at least twice a month."
You didn't mention that in your original message, and you don't say now what you'd been observing on those other trips to the bank.
Let me see if I can sum up your hypothesis: You (one person) haven't seen the last two commemorative quarters of 2003, that coupled with your observation of 4 people cashing in change on one trip to the bank means "the economy (is)so bad".
The commemorative quarters are minted in a pre-determined amount and they are distributed regardless of other circumstances (confirmed by Lefty). If less coinage was needed because of economic circumstances they would just pull other older quarters out of circulation.
And guess what the economy IS bad, but the experts came to the conclusion with real statistics.

12. I sorry that someone peed in your Cheerios. |

Lighten up and you might not have so much stress.
I see what looks like a corelation and ask a question about it and you see fit to attack it in a very negative style. If your world is so negative, I feel sorry for you. Maybe someday, you will be able to overcome your negativity and find some friends. In the meantime, goodbye.

I haven't seen the Arkansas or Alabama coins. Don't know if th efirst 2004 has been minted but haven't seen any of those either.
I read that many fewer of the later coins were minted. I forget the figures but the difference was substantial.

I have a bit of empathy for those who are still looking. I've been hoping that I wasn't seeing a trend...

I collect the state quarters (I have a map with color-codes and slots). I need the Michigan one, and 2 from last year. :D
What is on the Michigan one?

7. The first quarter in 2004 was the Michigan quarter |
|
and the state asked that it's introduction be delayed until late January, on the anniversary of our statehood, instead of being released in early January like it would have been otherwise. But you are right, when the economy dips, coin and paper money usage drops, the federal reserve banks get smaller orders for coins, and then the mint gets smaller orders for coins.

13. I was thinking of the opposite |
|
That people would be more prone to cashing in their spare change due to need, thereby increasing the amount of coinage in circulation(rather than sitting in jar on the dresser) , reducing the need for the release on new coinage.
Apparently, there are some (one) that has major issues with this, so I'm just going forget all this. Then again, it might be interesting to plot coinage minted vs. party affiliation of the POTUS, but I bet that would put the OarUrsus into a coronary.
