What song do you most resent being converted to an ad jingle? |
|
I gotta go with CCR's Fortunate Son having the first half of the first stanza ripped wildly out of context to plug Wrangler jeans. They seem to have discontinued the ad, but still.
Hell, there's a million of them, from Like A Rock to Whip It. I'm sure a lot of us hated these songs in the first place (I'm probably the only one here who will admit to having liked Like A Rock), but it's not like constant repetition in the service of Mammon is likely to raise our opinion of them either. Share a few, will you?
Kindly forgive my 5003d post about tv advertising. What can I say? I'm obsessed.

It's been whored out so much like on the Carnival cruiselines commercials. And it doesn't help that hack-band Jet ripped it off and has whored their own song out like no other band.

Re: Lust For Life. Has it been used by others or just the cruise line? For some reason, I thought someone else had used it a few years back, a car ad or something? Or has the cruise line been using it for years now that it seems as omnipresent as "Like A Rock"?

Unfair to call him an idiot really, but "dickwad" doesn't look right in a subject line. I, too, have the sense that the song gets used in a lot of commercials, but maybe it really is just Carnival playing it wall-to-wall.

23. 'Tis the Gift to be Simple |
|
I really hated it when they used the old Shaker hymn about life-style simplicity to market a luxury car. Can't remember what car is was, but it was maybe five years ago.
Simple Gifts 'Tis the gift to be simple, 'Tis the gift to be free,
"Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right, It will be in the valley of love an delight.
When true simplicity is gained, to bow and to bend , we will not be ashamed.
To turn, turn, will be our delight,
'Til by turning, turning, we come round right.

Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 04:18 PM by The Backlash Cometh
took the jingle, "Don't Worry, Be Happy" song for their political theme song during one of the Reagan campaigns. It was despicable considering that it encouraged you to not challenge Republican policies which were responsible for the very situations that are pointed out in the song.
