Just got back from the Klan rally...... |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 06:10 PM by bowens43
in Raleigh North Carolina. That's right, the KKK and the American Nazi party had a rally at the capital building in downtown Raleigh. They had about 15 people show up. Some in nazi uniforms some in the traditional sheets and hoods. It was totally bizarre. They carried Nazi flags, pictures of Hitler and posters with hate speech. I stood on the other side of barriers and hundreds of cops in riot gear with the other thousand or so counter protesters. It got pretty scary a couple of times. Seems people around here don't care for the Klan anymore. As I was standing their one elderly white woman came walking up to me and started talking about how these Nazis were spitting on the freedom that so many died in world war II to protect. She ended up in tears and walked away just shaking her head.

Speaking of Jessie. One thing I can say about him is that he always answered my letters when he was in the senate. He NEVER agreed with me but he always responded. Dole and Edwards have never responded to my letters.

Also, with the big basketball culture there, I would think that at least race relations there are very good.
NC is a big banking hub, too. Very urban-professional.

30. Yeah, they should sit in Malaprop's some Sunday afternoon, |
|
and then get back to us. If Asheville is 'backwater', there is a hell of a lot of people moving here; housing is so expensive, I can't afford to buy one.

9. I hate Nazis. I hate Illinois Nazis even more, but... |
|
those people died for the right for anyone to organize a protest/demostration, no matter how vile.
Their numbers reflect their dying ways. Let them organize, much like a Freeper Rally, it's just an embarrasment.

NC is the heart of NASCAR country, and although I don't know anything about NASCAR or NC, I have read enough here to know that it is all racist. I bet there were thousands of KKK/Nazis and only 15 counter protesters...at least from what I have read here.

Waco Kid (to Klansmen): "Oh boys, I got somethin' ta show ya!"
Waco Kid then pulls out Sheriff Bart, who is black, from behind a rock:
Bart: "Hey, where is the white wimmen at?!"
Klansmen run over to jump Bart, and are beaten and have their robes and hoods stolen....

|
Good for Raleigh, not that I'm even slightly surprised. We had a similar occurance in Asheville, a few years back. The city said they couldn't prevent the march, but the public response was similar: no welcome, to say the least for the racist trash. The head kluxer (or whatever he is officially called) was so pissed he threatened to come back and "punish" us... Never did. What a waste of subhuman body parts. :puke:

34. The most scared I have ever been was when I was 11. |
|
1966 - June - that's when the big airline strike hit, and my dad, mom and us kids were driving to Maryland from Florida for a visit with relatives. Stopped in a little "mom and pop" motel off of US1 in a little town in NC. Brother & I went "exploring" out back (really rural area) after dinner and walked right up on a klan rally. Cross and all. On fire.
We ran, literally terrified, back to the motel and told the folks. They weren't too worried, because altho they were Catholic, no one knew it in the area..............but I had nightmares for weeks.
I am so glad to see that the mores have changed and these people are held in the contempt they deserve.

I didn't go to the rally because I didn't know about it until the evening news.
But it makes me proud that the ratio was roughly 1 : 999 against.

is falling.
I have fought to allow Nazi's and Klansmen express themselves under the First Amendment, but I certainly have nothing in common w/ them.
I would have been right next to you, shouting for them to go away; but ironically, I would defend their right to speak.
