Just saw "Children of Men" - I have some questions (spoiler warning) |
|
Good movie with a rather abrupt ending.
Am I correct in assuming that when Kee is picked up by the "Human Project" boat that the baby/children noises heard are from the baby girl and other children, and not just hers? They had mentioned some sort of island sanctuary.
Did the book go into any more details on the descent of mankind into anarchy? The movie mentions, "were your parents in New York when it happened?" - I got the implication it was nuked, was that in the book?
I only remember Clive Owen in two leading roles, but he seems to be the conflicted lead - King Arthur and this role.

1. In the movie, a mushroom cloud rose over Manhattan |
|
It was on one of the British PSAs that they broadcast. While NYC was nuked, Washington DC fell into rioting and chaos.

3. i think all we can assume was that she was picked up |
|
It'd be nice if it had a more definitive ending, but it works. Besides, the brilliant 10 minute straight shot of the battle more than makes up for the ending.

4. I rather liked the ending... |
|
A little abrupt, perhaps, but I think the viewer was supposed to have some lingering doubts as to whether or not the Human Project could really pull this off while everyone else was going the way of either dictatorship or Mad Max.

5. yeah, that's a good point |
|
The movie itself is a dark apocalyptic tale and it would probably detract from the overall movie if it ended with a 5 minute or so montage of everything returning to normal. Another possible ending would be to flashforward a month to a group in America hearing a report on a local UHF band of a possible baby in Britian. Then cut to credits as they hug or something.

I wasn't asking for a happy and light ending where everything is wrapped up nicely. I was more curious if the book went into any more detail, or if folks got the same impression as me.
