What do you think about a Honda civic coupe for a 6'6" guy?
I am looking for a new car, my employer has a parts supplier discount for Toyota & Honda vehicles (along with GM & others). I am torn between a toyota corrolla & a Honda civic. I will pass on the prius for two reasons 1) My driving is mostly highway. 2) My parents have one & my knees sit 4 inches above the lower dashboard (oouch in a collision)

I am leaning towards the civic coupe, do you think it would work for a large individual?

1. I am 6'3" and am interested to know too.
What is your inseam? I have a 40" inseam so my legs are a real issue in cars.

3. I bet it's "difficult" to find clothing, huh?
I can't buy jeans at the store as I wear 36 x 38 (inseam) trousers. If I wore 50 x 30 I would be fine but they won't carry anything over 34 it seems to me.

5. Thankfully capri pants are in right now
And I live in a very warm climate and can wear capris year round.

I can get away with 38"s if they are straight leg jeans.

I also sew a lot of my clothes.

7. You would hate the Prius.......
Seriously. I can drive the thing but I suspect on long trips it would be uncomfortable. I also feel really uncomfortable with having my knees AGAINST the dashboard rather than under it.

8. Knees against the dash would be a deal breaker for me.
Seriously.

11. That's a hugh inseam
I'm 6'5" and I comfortably wear 36" and sometimes even 34", but then again I never wear my pants at the correct height and let them sag a bit.

Seriously I am 60% legs and 40% torso.

2. If you are comfortable. do it.
I always rent compact cars when I travel for business- that's what most companys expect. But some of the men I have worked with wouldn't drive them because they just hated feeling cramped.

I am "uncomfortable" wasting gas!
I guess the best thing for me to do is to go to a dealer & sit in a couple of cars, huh?

10. Yes- definitely take a test drive.
There really can be a height issue. I am 5'8" and a compact car is fine with me. But if you're 6'6" you might actually have to slouch to fit in one!

13. mr carly is 6'5
we were vehicle shopping recently. He had a hard time fitting into those smaller vehicles. At one time we had a Ford Escort, and he had a hard time riding in it because his knees were near the dashboard and his head near the roof of the cab. On long trips it was really hard on his back. We ended buying an xterra, he tried all kinds of cars, larger and small, and this was about the only vehicle he felt comfortable in, other than a dodge ram pickup, which would have really cost in gas.

14. I looked at both when shopping for a new car
But went with the Ford Focus. My SO is a big guy, but is quite comfortable in this car. Plus the Sync system is great!

16. My brother is 6' 4"
Yeah, I know, we're not exactly twins. He has two vehicles, and one is a Toyota Corolla. No problems with fit. He's finicky, too, he wouldn't buy something if it wasn't quality nor comfortable on a long drive to work.

Drive the Civic, and see. If it doesn't work, there's always the Mazda3.

17. Test drive, test drive, test drive
Take an extended one if possible with both the Honda and Toyota. If the Civic is too small, look at the Fit (small but lots of space I hear), or the CRV/Element which are still good on gas but better for larger people.

19. Don't know how the new Civics are, but...
I have a '99 Civic EX couple. I have to push the seat all the way back to be comfortable. And I'm 5'11".

20. The roof of the Civic might be a problem for you. My husband is 5'9" and comes
pretty close to the ceiling. And while I adore our Civic and have no real complaints about it, it does sit very low to the ground. For someone bigger or taller, that can make getting in and out of it rather challenging in my experience.

I heard, though, that the Honda Fit is actually great for tall people. I haven't been inside one yet, but I'm pretty sure that's the next car I'm buying when the Civic konks out (which may not be for awhile even though she's 9 years old.

Consider some of the higher-roofed subcompacts

24. Yeah Scions seem to have a little more headroom
Also, if the seat is lower like on a Prius - that might work

23. would you consider a Honda Element? Or Toyota Camry?
I know a lot of people who *love* them, and while it's a bigger car (SUV, sorta) it has lots of room for doggies and good head & leg room for tall folks.

My husband is 6'4" and we had trouble finding something. My brother-in-law is 6'7" and is perfectly comfortable in a Camry. Corolla, no. Civic, no. But Camry, yes. And my husband is comfy in an Element (we didn't get it, though - out of our budget right now).

Good luck! If you're tall, it isn't easy finding a fuel-efficient, compact car.
