Most amazing craigslist find EVER: $1400 Crate & Barrel sofa bed for $50.
In near-perfect condition; upholstery's a little dirty in places, but will be a cinch to clean (beautiful light sage green). Bed part of the sofa bed has never been used.

Awe. Some. :woohoo:

What amazing deals have YOU gotten on craigslist?

I saw it about two minutes after the owner posted it last Wednesday night, immediately emailed her, and paid her for it sight unseen before I went out of town for the holiday (a bit of a chance there, because I was afraid something might be wrong with it...or it might be stinky or something). And then I had it picked up/delivered last night. I'm glad I got to her first, because she apparently had people begging her to sell it to them after I paid her.

I'm moving into a bigger apartment (finally) when my boyfriend moves in, and need to get new/bigger furniture. That was a major score.

Edited to add: not entirely sight unseen, because she posted several pics of it in the listing.

12. Great!
I've scored some nice stuff at yard sales and such.

I am collecting old pyrex, and I got a pyrex casserole dish and cover from the 1950s, with the candlewarmer cradle--IN THE BOX--for $10.

Your deal is better than mine, though! Congrats on scoring that.

11. I LOVE Crate & Barrel's stuff.
I'm glad to hear the bed part is comfy, too!

My cats :loveya: the "new" sofa, too, which has been entertaining. Can't budge their furry little butts off of it.

13. I did buy eggcrate mattress pads
to soften them up a bit more, but we have repeat houseguests who never complain about the sleeping arrangements. I've even crashed on it a few times...not bad!

17. Yeah, I leave them on there.
It does make the couch cushion poof up a bit. But we don't really SIT on the couches, so it hasn't been a problem. You may find it obnoxious if you're actually using the couch as it's intended. ;)

15. Great place to sell stuff when moving.
We made enough money to purchase a gorgeous dining room table from World Market for next to nothing.

When we showed to do a once over before buying, she was so desperate to move the thing she threw in a bunch of World Market chairs for free!

18. It's like shopping straight out of the catalog for IKEA, Pottery Barn, etc.
But used, instead of new (there's also some hilariously, frighteningly ugly furniture out there, too). Doesn't hurt that LA is humongous, so the pickins' here are pretty substantial.

I'd rather have new stuff, but it's out of the budget right now, so I'm having fun surfing the listings there.

22. I've gotten a couple great deals on craigslist.
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 07:43 PM by intheflow
Just yesterday I scored a beautiful one bedroom apartment in a Victorian house in a trendy neighborhood for the bargain basement price of $795/mo--includes ALL utilities AND allows dogs AND has it's own private yard and deck. Believe me, I've been looking at apartments for weeks and this is by far and away the best I've seen in all of Denver. Like you, I was the first person to call and so the first person to schedule a showing. Another girl got there shortly after me and was bummed by my taking the place. And while I was filling out the application and writing the deposit check the landlord got two more calls and had to tell them he had just rented it.
:bounce:

I also got a free ride to the mechanics shop that fixed my car when it broke down over Christmas. Might not sound like a deal, but it was over 300 miles away, and I'd just paid $1400 I didn't have to get a new engine installed, so even though I offered to pay the guy gas money, I was relieved when it was refused. Just so happened this guy who lived about 15 miles from me was going to the same town to watch his son compete in some sporting event, and even more weirdly, it turned out the event was two buildings away form my mechanic. It was a small city off the beaten path for just about everyone, so it really was a craigslist miracle for me.

I'll tell you where else I've gotten good deals: Freecycle. I've gotten some great stuff there, and also gotten rid of junk through there. It might not be so great in all parts of the country, though. My sister lives in rural Michigan and said the Freecycle group there never put anything good up, but the same could probably be said for craigslist in some parts of the country.
