In the last week and a half or so, I've been having some health problems. I was wondering if anybody could tell me if I'm just being paranoid.
Since I recovered from a nasty cold a week aog, I have had much less energy than normal. I feel tired in the middle of the day. Also, my appetite has evaporated. I don't feel hungry any more. I still eat, but just because it's the right time of day; not because I'm hungry.
I though this was wierd because I am 14 and am growing. Normally, I would be hungry all the time and full of energy.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Dave.

I scheduled a doctor's appointment. Hope he'll just give me some magical meds that make me better.

I'm 14... so my mom sorta sorts it all out. But she and my dad are teacher's. We're upper-middle class, so I'm pretty sure I have health insurance.

6. Then go see a doctor ASAP |

You're lucky. I have friends who had hairline fractures for months before they did anything b/c they didn't have insurance.

Within a few decades, if we get lucky, and get a reeeally good president, maybe we can have health insurance for all.

about this problem when he becomes president. Dean was the only man with a plan that would actually be able to pass congress.
It's sad that I had to ask if you had insurance before I suggested you go to a doctor.

Not just a "kissing" disease, but can be caused by stress or lack of sleep and other strains on your system.
Get lots of rest, drink lots of fluids, avoid "droplet contact" with others (sneezing, kissing, sharing utensils, etc) and get to your doctor on Monday.
Good luck.

14. If your folks are teachers, they should be able to work around that. |
|
The attendance requirements MUST be bent for someone who keeps up with the work and passes the tests if they're truly sick. Some states are nasty and require that you have at-home teaching by certified teachers in order to bend the attendance requirements. If your parents are teachers, sounds like you've got that licked.
Don't panic. Hang in there.

Don't panic. Relax and wait until you discuss what's going on with your doctor. Keep eating at mealtimes, even if you have to force yourself. Do a little exercise if you can, even just a walk around the block each day. Talk to people, just chit-chat. Don't isolate yourself.
You will be okay. Please keep us updated, okay?

Minor forms of mono won't require extensive bedrest. If you get to the doc right away, he'll get you squared away in no time. Don't let it persist though.
Sounds like mono to me too, and believe me, I get it a lot. Just about everytime I get a cold, I end up with mono because I don't do a good job of slowing down enough to let my body recover.

12. I've had mono four times |
|
at ages 11, 14, 19, and 22.
If you don't have it, I'll be shocked. You sound just like I did all four times.
Good News: Your teachers will give you a couple of weeks' worth of work and, judging by the fact that you're smart enough to be here, you'll do it all in three days and have a couple of weeks' vacation at home.
Bad News: You'll feel worse before you feel better.
Be aware that mono patients often test negative the first time -- it's a well-known but unexplained thing -- and that if you test negative and still feel bad 10-14 days later, you should make your parents get you tested again.
Hang in there. Take care of yourself.

My 16 year old daughter had mono last year and it knocked the stuffing out of her for most of the school year. Go see a doctor!

I'm a bit freaked out. But I'm also exhausted. So I'm going to sleep now. Good night. I'll sleep and then see a doctor soon.
Thanks for your help. Hugs to all,
Dave.

23. Do you still have cold symptoms? |
|
If you have any kind of congestion, it could be a sinus infection. It can make you fatigued. If you actually had flu, you can feel drained for a while too. The doctor should be able to help you out.
