So anyone here planning on a 3G iPhone purchase on Friday?
I own have an original model and I just don't think its worth switching yet. Its $15 dollars more a month if you go for texting. That's $180 dollars a year. For what?GPS ? I already own one.
Faster service? I use mine mostly in Wifi areas. Wifi is faster than 3G.
I dunno? Maybe the software store will provideme a better reason but now?

No thanks.

What do you think?

1. I like my Blackberry
I can upgrade the memory whenever I feel like it, it syncs to EVERYTHING, there's no touchscreen to smudge and I don't have to be Steve Job's bitch and pay three times the true value of a product. I'm over Apple's bullshit. I wanted a Mac at one point, too, but I didn't feel like selling off my first born to be part of the club. Then I put Ubuntu on a standard PC... ahhhhhhhh. Now I can feel superior to 99% of the computing population.

4. I have Umbuntu on an older PC
It works great. I do love my iMac though. The software that comes with it is excellent. My son uses Garage Band to record his music and has done some amazing things on it. When you look closely at the whole picture the Mac's value becomes more apparent. No virus software needed either.

5. I felt like being stand-off-ish
In reality, I know that Mac's bring alot to the table. And I do like their software suite quite a lot. But after going Ubuntu, there's no going back. It's the best of all PC worlds. I still have Windows for those 'have to' programs and I'm debating on throwing on osX86 as a third boot option, but I don't see why. I love me some Ubuntu. I even use it to repair Windows when it fucks up which happens invariably.

2. Meh, they're neat and all, and the price is pretty damn good, but...
the data plan you have to get from AT&T to enable all the gee-whiz features costs a lot of flow that I'd much rather just stow in my savings. I'm fine with just a regular old cell phone.

Until Apple gets its head out of its soft parts and sells them unlocked, who'd buy it? Everyone knows AT&T sucks.

10. LOL, Apple stock price 174.25
Even after a down day today.

Yeah, Apple is really floundering. I won't buy these things but others will. Plenty. :)

Here's an idea, why don't you go into the corporate logo thread and insist Apple's is the worst, that you don't understand it and the bite is in the wrong place and it was an overpriced design? That would fit right in.

20. I don't agree.
I own a Verizon company phone and have a family plan with att. Their coverage is pretty equal IMHO. I had Sprint years ago and unless you were near a large city you frequently had no service.

I guess its where you live?

7. I don't currently have an iPhone and really want
one....however I am not eligible for an upgrade through AT&T until May 2009 so I don't know if I can get one at the $199 or $299 price. I read on the New York Times site that I could not.

I really do hate my current phone (a Samsung Blackjack).

15. Can't you get a replacement phone ?
I just got my Sprint phone replaced for free today. I thought I would have to pay the $50 deductible since I have insurance on my phone but my phone was not able to be fixed so they switched it with the same model.

Please don't walk around with a cell phone that keeps breaking. I had duct tape on mine (lol you don't even want to know) and it would'nt charge at all. I would have to hold the charger adapter into my phone half way because if I put in there all the way,it would'nt connect. And then it would constantly beep. The phone would say "Charge Complete" BUT as soon as I would do something simple like check my voice mail, the battery would be on one bar left.

16. I don't think this model is even made any more,
and besides, I don't especially like Nextel -- their coverage isn't very good. Now that my contract has expired I have a perfect excuse to get an iPhone, even though I don't much like AT&T. At least their coverage is better than Nextel's.

but I think I'll resist my urge to get an iPhone and stick with TMobile's fav 5 plan, which is fucking great and get a Blackberry.

The other options are (if I have enough money) to get a Nokia tablet phone, not sure what provider supports it or a Skype phone.

24. I just got new phones....
I use a phone for making calls... not for GPS, music, surfing the web, taking pictures. I got tied in with Sprint and my phone broke... so I selected a new phone for signal reliability.

There's a reason why AT&T's slogan is "Your World Delivered". To whom exactly is it delivered to? Probably the NSA...

Sure the iphone looks nice and flashy and if someone gave it to me I wouldn't object... but I don't want one. Not even the old one.

Mark.

25. Not me
I just upgraded to a Blackberry. The phone cost only the $18 upgrade charge because it was refurbished. It has lots of bells and whistles that I will probably never use, but I do like the keyboard, which allows easier use of the calendar and notepad. And it syncs to my Mac easily.

AT&T? I have it because it has the best coverage in my area.

believe it or not, that is why it works so well.

on a newer intel mac, it will be WAY more hassle than it is worth, if it even works at all. Nothing but problems have arisen since the switch to intel, with regards to the Blackberry's and especially Palm devices, such as a Treo...

52. I agree with you
I saw a woman jogging down my rather steep hill this morning, with a phone glued to her ear. I was actually in awe that she could run and have enough wind to talk as well.

As for me, I deal with all sorts of contractors and caretake several houses. I need to be able to reach my contractors and have them reach me where ever I am. Hence the cell phone. The Blackberry has been a godsend for taking notes and logging appointments. In a pinch I can send e-mail to my (frequently out-of-country) clients.

Personal use is almost nonexistent. In fact personal use of my landline is almost nonexistent.
