It's a challenge to really get to know the truth about people on the Internet

The upside here is that I'll be able to buy you a lot of stuff, and you'll be able to afford
all the pedicures and massages you want. The downside is that I can't turn it off and will
compete against the kids and even the dog. I will even compete against you.
For example, if we're playing a board game, and I start to lose, I won't be able to stand it. . . . .

7. This is my favorite phrase from that article
'it allows individuals to spout whatever mythology about themselves that they want to'

2. I try to be as honest as possible online.
Just makes things easier. No need for silly games. No need to pretend to be someone else. No need to keep track of everything I've said.

But I'm not exactly an average guy.

... and dashingly good looking, too. :P

11. "HI. I'm a douchebag. Daddy didn't love me enough...
So now I feel like I need to fill the void in my heart with money, avarice, and contempt for the human race. I want a wife and a family, but only because they will fulfill the idealistic notion of happiness I concocted back when I was 5 years old and crying myself to sleep after one of daddy's alcohol rages. I am dead inside, and will likely fuck any woman with a pulse, so be warned. I hate myself, but I hope that when I am 75, I will find enlightenment and become a bearable person. I wish you the best of luck in trying to make it long as my wife before you want to kill yourself."

24. I dated someone like that once.
I was young & naive, but thankfully I had the brains to say "No!" when he asked me to marry him. I heard he married someone else less than a year after we broke up.

I was hoping to highlight the point of the article:

It's a challenge to really get to know the truth about people on the Internet

<snip>
"The whole problem when it comes to online dating is exactly the same
problem that infects almost every other area of modern life: hucksterism.
For all that it does to make our lives easier, the Internet is such an opaque
instrument
that it is ridiculously easy for the average person to slather
themselves in snake oil and get busy selling.
This is an OK model if you're
trying to unload a 1995 Plymouth, but it's fairly lousy if you're trying to
unload yourself. First of all, it makes physical attractiveness of primary importance;
second, it allows individuals to spout whatever mythology about themselves
that they want to; and third, it leaves little room for informative statements
like the following:

"I'm a highly aggressive and competitive guy, and as a result, I make a lot of money.
The upside here is that I'll be able to buy you a lot of stuff, and you'll be able to afford
all the pedicures and massages you want. The downside is that I can't turn it off and will
compete against the kids and even the dog. I will even compete against you.
For example, if we're playing a board game, and I start to lose, I won't be able to stand it. . . .
