Post a picture of a place, then let us guess the location
It doesn't have to be a picture you took yourself. I'll start.

30. I wondered if it was the trees. That place is so famous for the geysers but
there is so much more there besides Old Faithful! The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is amazing. That waterfall is off a side road, not in the geyser area.

142. did you get a hotel yet? Listen, if you book now for after Labor Day
you should be able to get at least one night in one of the big inns in the park, either Mammoth Hot Springs, Ole Faithful or Lake Yellowstone, all are great.

Try for a room in the Tetons itself..the Lodge at Jenny Lake is just amazing. Don't miss Jenny lake, even if you just drive by it and stop for a photo or two.

West Yellowstone has tons of places all begging for visitors at that time of year. There are bed/breakfasts all around too.

Either West Yellowstone or Gardiner MT will offer the best selection outside the park. Avoid Cook City and Silver Gate (the Northeast entrance) they are just not as nice as the other two. The only reason to go to Cooke City is if you decide to drive the Beartooth

You can also stay in Cody WY but it is the farthest from the park. Now if you get to Cody you can see the Wild Bill Hickock museum and do some great end of season shopping. All the tourist shops are cleaning out inventory before they close for the winter both in Cody and West Y

here is a nice little map from a very good comprehensive link http://www.yellowstone.net/area.htm and here is the link for the park itself:http://www.nps.gov/yell/

You are coming in from the south and there isn't a village or cluster at the South entrance because basically the two parks are merging at that point. No outside commercial development there at all . So if you take off early in the a.m from Jackson and tour all over Teton (mostly driving) then head up to your next overnight you will be fine. Yellowstone and Teton are both driving parks. You can see a great deal without ever leaving your car. Oh yeah, do respect the speed limits. They have these things up there called animal jams...just your friendly herd of bison standing in the road...and the elk especially at night.

27. It looks like Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone but I know it isn't because they
don't let you ON the formation like that, and there is no steam. Mammoth Hot Springs is way too hot to get that near...much less IN which appears to be the case here (photo is very small on my screen) But that is one beautiful piece of terraced pools . If that were in a cave it would be called rimstone dams.

Incidentally, yellowdogintexas's post up thread reminded me that you'll be there at a great time to hear the elk bugling--so if you happen to spend a night at Mammoth (which is usually crawling with elk), a pre-dawn walk would be a great idea, if you get the chance. :)

For me, the thing that makes or break a big city is the public space (or lack of) and how it looks. It makes all the difference in the world as to whether a city is pleasant and liveable or a hellhole.
