A little feral kitten in our neighborhood has finally let us bring him in the house, and he is walking on my keyboard as I type. We're getting him a checkup and shots tomorrow! :woohoo:

It is illegal to post a thread like this without pictures. You know that. :)

But anyway, congratulations on your new family member, tgby52. :loveya:

6. Thanks for the replies!
Sorry to wander off and take so long to get back to you.

I will go work on getting a picture posted after I've posted this - I'm not very good at messing with images, but I'll try.

It didn't take very long, actually, after he walked up and informed us we were feeding him. He'd been in the neighborhood a few months, and I guess the pickings got slim. He's skittish with regard to noises and things he's not expecting like people carrying things in their hands, but once he does get near you he's fine as long as nothing startles him.

We have him in the house now that he's been checked out, and he's doing fine with it. Not crazy about having a cat box again, but what are you gonna do. He holds the current record for the smelliest cat box in our house, ever.

We're gonna let him settle in a couple of weeks and then get him fixed. It'll cost a bit more than usual, because one of his testicles hasn't descended. (In other words, we have a one-balled cat - I thought that area looked a little odd.)

Found out something from the vet when we took him in that I hadn't known - cats don't ovulate until they copulate - now isn't *that* handy - just very efficient kitten machines, of which we have too many in our area. Well, now there's going to be one less..... ;)

7. Bless you. These small triumphs make life worth living.
You're a good soul, and it's appreciated here.

We have three cats and three dogs. All rescued, and getting up there (Oldest cat and dog are each 15).

When they throw the dirt over me, one of the best things I will have done in life is to be kind to animals, to contribute to their care, and to have loved so many who have given me far more in return than I have ever given to them.

9. Thank you for taking care of them into their old age.
The only thing I don't like about keeping a bunch of animals (well, besides the food and vet bills ;) ) is eventually losing them. We have a row of five urns on the bookshelf now that we're in an area where we can have them cremated, and three buried at our old house (on acreage, not in the city!).

We've never had more than one cat at a time, for some reason, but we were up to eight dogs at one point. Right now we have one dog of about two years, one about ten years, and two in the teens. (Plus, now, the new cat).

The two dogs in the teens are quite small, so we hope to have them around a good while yet. At one point we had a 150-pound dog who died from a stroke at 12, but I understand that's in the 90's for a dog that big.

I agree that it is good to do what you can to take care of animals!

10. I lost two dogs and a cat to traffic. Awful stuff; I will never let that happen again.
My fault, on both the dogs. Tippy in 1965; Sasha in 2001. You don't forget things like that.

But I have to forgive myself for the animals I have saved and cherished in my lifetime. I will continue to do so until the end; no more pups for me as I push 60. Only adult animals from here on out. Hey, enjoy them! They love you unconditionally, and vice versa. Good stuff.

Isn't that tail something? He often amuses us by chasing it vigorously.

Edited the subject after I looked at the one above it - "He's cute!" "Not really." ;)

They put him down as a year when we took him in, and said the vet would make a better estimate, but he didn't say anything and I forgot to ask. I'll try to remember next time.
