health insurance question |
|
If you go to someone who is not a preferred provider in your network will the insurance company make you pay the nonpreferred rate for all the lab work and stuff ordered by that doctor? We've only got 2 endocrinologists in town and the one who is preferred is a total jackass. I'm wondering if I should ask my PCP to write up any lab orders under his name so that I make sure the insurance will pay the most on them.

1. depends on the terms of the policy but usually, if the actual providers of the lab, xray |

and other specialty services are in network you get the network rate.
Call the customer service line on the insurance to be certain.
I checked on this with our new coverage..my primary doc is not in their network, but I specifically asked if she refers us to an in net provider for labs, etc. if they would be covered as in net and the answer was yes.
