So what's so great about the movie 'Chicago' |
|
I hated it.
I can usually find something good in a movie but this one just turned me right off. Didn't it win some Oscars or something?
The blonde's ugly and can't sing. Richard Gere is an embarassment. There's so many flashbacks and flash forwards and dream sequences (I have to assume that's what they are) that the plot is pretty much incomprehensible.

1. Yeah, I just watched it recently |
|
The singing and dancing were strictly second-rate. It was no big deal, didn't deserve Best Picture any more than Titanic did.

the show is great despite the fact that neither Zellwiger nor Gere are singers/dancers. Catherine Zeta Jones rocks though, and Gere and Zellwiger did do a good job on the puppet scene.

4. It's that rare musical in which the songs |
|
actually move the plot forward.
I'm inclined to say that if you don't like the movie you have no soul. The opening number alone was worth the price of admission.
I saw that movie in the theater three times in as many weeks. First time alone. Second time I brought my 20 year old son, who was reluctant to see it, but loved it. Second time was with my 15 year old son, same story.
Fine if you don't like it, but don't bother to go around saying how terrible it is. Not unless you want me to start threads about how the movie 2001 is the most pretentious piece of shit I've ever seen, and isn't real science fiction either.

But somehow I think it tends toward being a "chick flick"; not sure why or how, but the positive/negative reactions break down more that way from what I have seen...

that and the music, and the lighting. you know you're a straight male theatre geek when your attention is divided between legs and lights.
