1. Okay, this will sound silly, but trust me, it works. |
|
Get a bottle of white zin - cheaper the better.
Pour a little bit into some cups. The fuckers will drown.

4. White zin works, absolutely |
|
My mother had a glass here on the 4th of July. I went in the kitchen a little while later and there must have been like ten drowned in the dregs.

6. We have a fruit bowl on kitchen table... |
|
left out with fresh fruit for anytime snackin'....
Had bad fruit flies, but I did something organic that works:
Lightly cover the fruit bowl with a clean white soft muslin dish towel...
The flies can't get into the fruit, and the fruit can still 'breathe.'
Some folks say you need to wash your fruit right away, we wash it as we eat it, as washing cuts down on longevity.
And no fruit flies...

7. Don't they have one of those "ex-gay" ministries for insects? |
|

Then you'll just have plain old flies, not "fruit" flies! :sarcasm:
edit: header punctuation for clarity

8. We had a huge fruit fly problem last year. |
|
This is what worked for us. You need an empty juice bottle (or several depending on how many flies you have). Put a bit of wine and/or very ripe fruit (tomatoes work great) in he bottom of the bottle. Take a piece of construction paper and roll it up to make a funnel. Put the funnel into the top of the bottle. The funnel allows the flies to get in and prevents most of them from getting out.
The best way to prevent fruit flies is to wash all fresh produce very well and to not to leave any produce left uncovered.
Hope this helps.

9. Put them in a mason jar and watch them mate. |
|
Then count the babies and their traits. That's what we did in high school.

10. Put half a banana on the windowsill with the window open. |

Put the other half inside your sink garbage disposal.
Leave them over night.
In the morning, close your window and run your disposal.
