Edited to add: listening to him is bittersweet - there will never be another Nat King Cole

The best recording of the best song written in the 20th century.

20. You are, indeed, a person after my own heart!
I have often said Stardust is the best song of the 20th century and the NKC version the best ever. I feel I have met a kindred spirit. Thanks for posting.

22. You're welcome, I'm glad to hear it.
I have the boxed set (vinyl albums) of Nat King Cole that came out about 30 or 40 years ago. I hope to digitize my favorites from it soon. It's tragic that he died so young, and of lung cancer, but I read he smoked right before his recording sessions because he thought it improved the sound of his voice.

14. Unforgettable (with him and his daughter, Natalie Cole)
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 04:35 PM by Radio_Lady
Such a beautiful song originally, and spruced up so well with his lovely child.

I remember the night he died. I was working at WPIX-TV on 42nd Street as the On-Air Promotion Supervisor. I walked out of the office at about 6 PM and the evening paper had the headline that Nat was dead. I bought the paper, and sat down on a bus bench and cried. Born in 1919, same year as my mother, but died on February 15, 1965 of cancer.

6. I'm surprised you didn't get more posts - EVERYthing Nat sang was wonderful.
Some of my other favorites:

Unforgettable (original and w/remix w/Natalie)
Autumn Leaves
Pretend
Mona Lisa
The Christmas Song

I miss him so much! And so closely following Sam Cooke's death - just two more heartbreaking events to add to the tumultuous 60s!
