Miss Kitty, my 18 year-old cat, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Friday
Miss Kitty, The Queen of the Universe, had not been doing well of late.

She had not been eating; only drinking water.

She was in no pain, but I knew her time was near.

Tonight, she was lying on the couch at my feet.

I finally couldn't stand it any more, and picked her up to hold her.

Five minutes later, she passed on.

I held her for a long time, because I couldn't bear to let her go.

But, finally, I knew I had to.

The Seattle Humane Society does private cremations, where the ashes are returned to the pet's humans, so that is what I'm going to do.

This hurts so very much, and I think one reason why is that it's so close to the death of my mother

I got her from one of the Humane Societies shelters, when she was nothing more than a tiny ball of grey fur with big ears.

She's been my constant companion for all these years, and I wish her nothing but peace.

Miss Kitty (aka Missilupagous, Missasaurus, MissyWissy, HoneyPie):

4. I wish they could live as long as humans.
But even though they don't, they have a huge impact on our lives, don't they?

And you're right. Never too many of these--->

6. they do slip right into our hearts.

I had an apartment several years ago. They provided bug spray people who would come in regularly and spray under cabinets and such.

One day when I was home the guy came, rang the door bell, and my skittish kitty ran to the bathroom and hid in the cabinet under the sink. She always ran and hid when the door bell rang, so I didn't give it much thought.

The guy went into the bathroom, opened the cabinet to spray, and sheshot out like a flash and ran to hide in the kitchen cabinet.

The guy let out such a scream, and my kitty flashed past me about 1 100th of a second later.

I laughed so hard, and felt bad for my poor scared kitty. :D

7. I think so too
She was so weak, but on Thursday night, I went upstairs to the kitchen, and when I opened the door to go back downstairs, there was her saucy grey butt, planted on the top step. I opened the door wide, and she came into the kitchen, which she never did.

Then she went to the dog's water bowl and started to drink. MrSG held onto the dog, and I sat by the cat, petting her while she drank.

Then I picked her up and brought her back downstairs, where she slept until the moment on Friday when I picked her up, and she died shortly afterward.

54. Sweet Miss Kitty, I'm so sorry for your loss, SeattleGirl ...
...though what a great way for her to go - in your arms, at home. You know how people say that when they die, they hope it is peacefully, in their sleep? Miss Kitty probably wished she could die in your arms, peacefully, once she knew you'd acknowledged that she was failing and wouldn't be around much longer.

 The kitty boy love of my life is getting up there in years, and I hope when he decides to cross the rainbow bridge, he does it the same way Miss Kitty did.

56. My 18yo cat died about 6 or 7 years ago.
I decided to get a cat while i was in college and one of my buddies cats had a litter. I went over to his apartment and picked the kitten who had climbed the highest on his drapes.

18 years later I found her dead on my basement floor, splayed out like she normally was. She had lived through constant movement of apartments, a divorce, a remarriage and the birth of a child. (she didnt particularly like my boy either, but that was ok).

Anyway, her passing was sad and it also meant that an era of my own life came to an end.

It took 3 months to find a replacement kitty, and after all that we found out the boy was allergic. We had to give "kitty furpaws" (this is the name my 2yo son picked out) to my sister in law.

Anyway, I feel your loss and hope she didnt suffer.

78. Hi Seattle... welcome to the Kitty Lonely Hearts Club...
There's quite a few of us out here in DU land,
who have allowed our kittehs to move into the next cuddle world.

OUr hearts are broken, but because of our beloved kittehs,
we've known unconditional love.

You were privileged to be loved by her,
and especially because she passed in your arms.
She loved and trusted you that much.

Treasure the love she gave you, and know she's still padding
around in your heart... you might hear a little 'maiow'..
and it's her.

My Noel passed in April, but I still feel her watching me.

Love never dies.. it changes sometimes, but it never dies.

To have such a long and loving life and to die so peacefully in your arms is a huge blessing. That may not be much of a comfort right now, but with time it will be. No cat could ask for better.

Well, except for the quality of catnip at the Rainbow Bridge, that is.

I still cry when I watch it.

I didn't know if it was the right time to post it or not.

Glad the video helped.
