Five Questions. Snooping. |
|
1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email?
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet?
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see?
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last?
5) Have you ever checked the sheets?
Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had?

I have "privacy issues" thanks to my dysfunctional childhood. Because I must have my own privacy I extend that to others.
Bonus question: Although I don't regret it - I *did* do a small amount of snooping when I had the recovering addict living with me. I read some of her instant messaging conversations. There were things that led me to that, though. And I didn't do it continually. Only during a particular period.

But I'm very un-nosy in other situations. If a couple I know is fighting within earshot, I make it a point not to listen.

Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had? This one is a bit tricky. I've been in a couple VERY dysfunctional relationships. We both did "snooping" that we shouldn't have. The relationships themselves were awful because they turned me into someone that I didn't like AT ALL. Abuse, control, addiction, stalking... all of that fucks with a person on a very deep level. I do know NOW what red flags to watch out for and to run like the wind if I see them. I don't want to ever be in a relationship like that again and I *NEVER* want to become the person I was while in them.

1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email?
big-ass no.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet?
No, not a neighbor but I casually open medicine cabinets at friends/relatives house. I don't see this as a biggie, and I even organize my cabinet with the expectation that people will look in mine. I've also just helped myself to a tampon without asking and it was never a problem when I told that person later. I leave that kind of stuff in semi-obvious places for guests.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see?
Not with the intent of snooping, but I have had people leave me in their cars while they ran time-consuming errands during which I couldn't tag along. If you leave me in your car for more than 10 minutes, I'm going to be looking for some source of reading material, even if it's your car's owner's manual.
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last?
No, but I've looked in call logs when I was 95% sure he was cheating on me, and that made me 99% sure.
5) Have you ever checked the sheets?
Checked them for what? If I'm sleeping in them, I'm going to examine them. Beyond that, no why would anyone?
Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had?
Nothing really. I'm not snoopy but I don't understand people who get upset about others looking at certain things. Overly secretive people just make me think they really have something to hide. I don't tend to get along with people who have trust issues and don't open up easily.

1.) No, however I snoop my youngest brother's email because he lives with me and never leaves the house, yet always has money, an active WoW subscription, and cigarettes. Thus I suspect he's either selling his possessions on Ebay, whoring himself or dealing drugs.
2.) Come on. yes. I think most people have done this.
3.) Nope.
4.) Yeah.
5.) Why? Every major relationship I've ever been in has been open and non-informing. (That is, we were free to do what we wanted and we didn't have to discuss our bedmating.) I'm personally done with that now...but I don't care who they sleep with. Carte Blanche.
Bonus: I thought my roommate was hiding a gun under his bed, instead I found a vial of his gf's (or his...I didn't ask) blood. They were active vamp-players so it wasn't unexpected...just ewwww.

26. Good questions... Here are my answers: |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 08:53 PM by PelosiFan
1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email? Absolutely not. Never. That would be unforgivable.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet? No. I might open the medicine cabinet if I was desperate to find a bandaid or a q-tip or something, but then I would feel very guilty about invading their privacy.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see? Nope, never
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last? Never. But... I would have in a couple of cases, with someone who I already found out had been cheating on me. But that was before redial existed.
5) Have you ever checked the sheets? What? No. That would never even occur to me.
Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had? None. The only snooping I ever did was with the two people referred to in number 4. Then it was more like masochism to find out how long the cheating had been going on. I'm glad I did that snooping, because I found out that it had been going on a long time in both cases.

1) HELL NO. (Probably not that interesting anyway)
2) Well...I have on occasion when I needed an aspirin or something like that BAD.
3) I've looked in their glove compartments but because I was looking for tapes/CDs or something like that. Not for suspicious reasons.
4) Oh HELL no. What would I say to that person when they answer?
5) Frak no.
I eavesdrop on conversations on occasion but I DON'T snoop through people's personal stuff. EVER. I've had it done to me, and I know what a violation it is. I never forgave the person who did it to me, and I had trust/privacy issues for years afterward.

36. I guess I'm not very curious. |
|
1. No. I really have no interest in reading anyone else's e-mail. If I had their permission to use the computer and they accidentally were still logged in I'd log them off before doing anything else.
2. I've done this once when I was a teen for some reason. My own medicine cabinet is interesting enough. I wouldn't bother to look in a medicine cabinet now until I was hoping to find a q-tip or bandage or something.
3. No. But the last few people I dated weren't the type to be secretive, and I can't imagine what they'd have there that I'd care about.
4. No. I don't know if I'd recognize the number or care even if I did see the number.
5. Checked the sheets? As in look for signs of people having sex in that bed when it wasn't with me? Wow. I can't say that ever occured to me. I even encouraged my last girlfriend to feel free to find another boyfriend who was straight, so it might have been possible for her to be sleeping with someone else. But I'm positive she would have told me first, and I would have been happy for her.
Bonus question. None. If anything, I might have benefited from doing some occasional snooping, but I haven't bothered.

The relationship ended, and I didn't feel bad about confirming my legitimate suspicions by snooping at that point. It sure sucked to have my suspicions confirmed.

1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email?
* Possibly, if I thought there was some benefit to it to me - for instance, if it were my boss's e-mail.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet?
* No. I have no interest and even if I did, too many people use the marble trick.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see?
* No. Never even thought of it.
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last?
* No. If I didn't trust her, I wouldn't waste my time with her at all, much less be at her place so often.
5) Have you ever checked the sheets?
Not sure I even understand this one. I've obviously been with the same girl for too long.
Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had?
None. I don't ever remember getting caught.

1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email? - Nope.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet? - No.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see? - Nope, but my ex-husband did that sort of thing on a regular basis.
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last? - Nope. That would require a level of technical expertise beyond my own. I don't even know which is the redial button on our phones at home.
5) Have you ever checked the sheets? - I've never done this, but it's something I would do. I won't sleep on dirty sheets. :blech:

1) Absolutely not.
2) Maybe, but probably not. I think medicine cabinets are generally open to the public looking for paper products or soap, so I don't think it's an invasion to look through. I just don't think it's interesting to know what brand toothpaste someone uses.
3) No.
4) No.
5) No. Only if I'm deciding when to wash them.

yes to the bathroom medicine cabinet (and you all know you do it too) ;) Could care less about the glove box, no to the sheets (I would expect some sheet washing to go on at the very least) and never hit redial BUT I have gone through the cell phone.
I prefer not to hide it when I do...I call it a routine inspection. :P

Like I felt after the one time I read someone's diary in high school. The entry she wrote about how much she disliked me wasn't the reason I felt shitty—having violated her privacy was the reason.

Nope! I just couldn't do that.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet?
Nah! I don't know what lots of meds are for anyway.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see?
Not that I ever recall.

5) Have you ever checked the sheets?
Nope!

The only time I ever snooped, I read a page of someone's diary years ago, and felt like an ass. I don't believe in it.
I've had someone snoop on me, and while I generally don't hide anything, it sucks.

1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email?
No. I think that would be rude and I'd really hate it if someone did it to me.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet?
A neighbor? No. But I would feel free to open any friend or family member's medicine cabinet and would expect them to feel free to do so with anything of mine if they were in need of something at my house.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see?
I did, but this was only after I had very warranted information that my husband was having an affair. But I had never done it before, with anyone I'd dated or known, and haven't since.
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last?
No.
5) Have you ever checked the sheets?
No but during the time leading up to the confrontation about his affair, I checked his clothing regularly.
Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had?
Paradoxically, the one kind that gave me actual confirmation about my husband's affair and that was logging in to our cell phone usage log on our provider's website. I am not a snoopy, distrustful person in general but that entire event brought me to some real low points in terms of snoopiness.

e-mail - if they left the room no, if they left the building probably not, if they left the neighborhood maybe (and now thanks to skittles I will be watchful for the opportunity to send prank e-mails!)
bathroom - I wouldn't snoop but I am observant, ya know? and if they were out of tp or something I would look in cupboards for more
who stashes incriminating things in the glove compartment? stupid
phones - it has been so long since I would have even had the "need" to do this. These days I have to show him how to use the damn thing
sheets? nah
regretful snooping? never really done it - have had it done to me. I guess I'm not the suspicious type and I generally respect other people's privacy. Add to that fear of getting caught and I pretty much leave other peoples' things alone

...are you willing to violate someone else's trust in order to find out if your trust is being violated?
If you are, so be it, but regardless of what you find, you've lost the moral high ground.

1) If you were a guest in someone's home and they left the room with their computer on and email open, would you snoop through their email?
No, I'd have a heart attack.
2) If you were visiting a neighbor and had to use the bathroom, would you snoop through their medicine cabinet?
Bleah. No.
3) Have you ever dug through the glove compartment of someone you were romantically tied to, to see if that person had stashed something that he or she did not want you to see?
No, but only because whatever might have been in the glovebox surely could not have been worse than what was out in the open.
4) Have you ever hit redial on the phone to see who your SO called last?
I don't have a redial button and don't know what an SO is. Oh wait, gawd, I get it. The last real SO I had was before buttons were on phones... and the InSO's, well.
5) Have you ever checked the sheets?
For spiders and to see if the cats have left any surprises like the mouse I found two weeks ago! That was special.
Bonus question: What kind of snooping have you done that you wish you never had?
None. I'm boring that way.
